This actual draft kicks off on Thursday, and Windy City Gridiron will have it blanketed like no other site. So make sure to be logged into WCG for all your Chicago Bears draft chatter. Most of the mock drafts floating around has had the Bears going in similar directions, but the recent one at Yahoo Sports Shutdown Corner seems a little out there. They even preface their mock with this;
(Note: All picks in this mock based on team needs, as opposed to who teams might actually pick.)
But I'm still not feeling the pick...
With the 19th pick in the Shutdown Corner mock draft they have the Bears taking, Peter Konz, Center, Wisconsin...
Here's what they had to say about the pick;
The Bears have 33-year old converted guard Roberto Garza starting ahead of 30-year old journeyman Chris Spencer at center. It may be time for them to start looking forward at the position. As an added bonus, Mike Tice can then shuffle Garza and Spencer all over the offensive line during training camp. It's how he gets his jollies.
So if Shutdown Corner's Mike Tanier is doing his mock based on team need, is this really the best way to go for the Bears? He has Quinton Coples, Michael Floyd, Nick Perry, Jonathan Martin,and Luke Kuechly all still available at #19. But I suppose I could give him a pass, if he really believes that the Bears biggest need is a center, and he did say he was basing his draft on team need.
But upon second thought, if he really thinks the Bears would take Konz (based on need) over any of the players I listed in that last paragraph, then I think he should get his jollies by reading up a little more on the Bears. Here's a link to help him out.
