2013 Mock Draft : Bears Take A Linebacker ?

With the 32nd pick in the 2013 NFL Draft...

The Super Bowl Champion; Chicago Bears select....

Jelani Jenkins- Linebacker - Florida

Now Before you grab the pitch forks and torches and storm over to Central Illinois to burn my cardboard mansion down..Let me explain the reasoning behind this "reach" of a pick.

The Bears have aging linebackers, that's no secret to anybody, and if you deny this then you need to stop reading this post, stop posting on this site, and stop watching football because obviously it's not your speed.

With Urlacher and Briggs both in their mid 30's and Urlcher set to become a Free Agent after 2013, the Bears need to shoot some youth into their Linebacking corps, and quick.

This is where Jenkins comes in....

At 6'0 237lbs Jenkins has the size and speed (4.45 40yd dash) to play in the Tampa-2 system. He can play either WLB, or SLB, starting both at different times in college (also seeing some time at MLB). Jenkins is predominantly a coverage LB, which is what the T2 calls for. Linebackers who can cover and make the tackle when the receiver gets the ball.
Now you ask me "Where is the offensive lineman? Where is the defensive tackles?!?" , I tell you that this draft is so deep in OL and DTs that a 3rd round tackle from this draft would have been a 1st round tackle in last year's draft. This draft, however, is weaksauce in linebackers, therefor the Bears jump on one of the better linebackers available. Jenkins may be sort of a reach at 32, but he has as much upside as any linebacker in the draft. So, I believe this is the best pick available for the Bears. It fills both a need as well as BPA.
