When WCG published the article about the Bears all time 53 man roster, I mulled it over with a knot in my stomach. At the end we were asked to weigh in. I wanted so badly to remove a wide receiver, or a db or two and add Mike Brown and Leslie Frazier. But I just couldn't do it. Mike brown at least got honorable mention. But Leslie Frazier didn't get squat! Yes, Leslie Frazier. The man that Da Coach (yeah you know the one), called "the most underrated corner back in the NFL".
He was the best corner on what could arguably be called the best defense ever. And with all the stars and hall of farmers on that defense, Leslie Frazier was one of the main cogs that made it click. It was because of his shut down corner skills, that the defensive front could go hog wild on quarterbacks. The quarterbacks were running scared because they knew they were going to be eaten by some hungry Bears; because they had No Place to throw the ball. Leslie Frazier and Mike Richardson were beast. They didn't even call them shut down corners back then.
Unfortunately, like his selection on the Bears all time 53 man roster, his career was cut short on a play in the Super Bowl, that never should have happened. You can look that one up yourself. It hurts too bad.
Let me just say one more thing about this guy. I have been telling this story for about 15 years, but never had any proof, so I quit telling it. After looking for years, I finally have it. Leslie Frazier made the greatest corner back interception play "EVER". Yeah, that's right I said it "EVER". As a matter of fact, so did John Madden!
I've been following the bears and the NFL since Jim Dooley was fired as coach back in 1971, and have never seen anything like it. And it was against those hated green boy packers. In a 1984 game, John Jefferson thought he had caught the football. Nope, Mr Frazier had it. It was so shocking that the refs threw the flag, and later had to admit it was thrown in error. They had to confer to figure out which ref saw contact. No one did.
So hats of to Leslie Frazier, an unsung good guy, who deserves a special mention when it comes to the All Time Bears. Here's the link. Take a look for yourself. Watch the whole video and let WCG know what you think about it.
