I think we've all shrugged off the idea of signing him because we saw that he is a restricted free agent, and we'd have to give up 1st rounders to get him. I read this great article today on Midway Illustrated that says this is not the case ( link - http://www.midwayillustrated.com/2013-articles/february/chicago-bears-free-agency-target-brian-de-la-puente-should-be-top-priority.html)
In summary, no compensation is needed for signing him away from the Saints because he was an undrafted free agent. The Saints would have 7 days to match our offer, but considering they are currently around 18 million over the cap right now, a nice offer might make that difficult for them.
He's already been quoted saying how great Aaron Kromer was for his development. I think he would jump on the opportunity to sign with us. And, most importantly, he was rated as the second best center in the league last year according to PFF, behind only Vikings's John Sullivan. This would be a huge upgrade and he's only 27 years old. Garza could move to RG until Louis returns (which is his more natural position anyway) and then, with Garza being 34, we can move on at the end of the season when his contract is up.
Seems like a no brainer to me.
