Joe Camporeale-US PRESSWIRE
We've had two big additions, and a handful of smaller deletions... A few big name Chicago Bears free agents remain unsigned.
The first couple of days of Free Agency were fun for Bears fans, watching the general manager sign two players that will significantly upgrade positions of need on the offensive side of the ball.
SIGNED:
LT Jermon Bushrod (6'5, 315)
He was a two-time Pro Bowl selection while playing under Aaron Kromar in New Orleans, and now he gets to to take care of Jay Cutler's blind side. Bushrod is a big fella, has good athleticism, and can generally take care of things in one-on-one blocking situations. In a division that features Clay Matthews and Jared Allen, a good offensive tackle will be quite valuable.
TE Martellus Bennett (6'6, 270)
How much did this signing mean? Within hours of signing one tight end, the Bears released two. Bennett will apparently replace Kellen Davis AND Matt Spaeth, and to no surprise. He's a great run-blocker, and a significant receiving threat when stretching the field.
RELEASED:
TE Kellen Davis
TE Matt Spaeth
DT Matt Toeaina
CB D.J. Moore
LB Nick Roach's visit in Oakland continues today after he had dinner with some of the #Raiders' brass last night. #Bears
