Steve Maneri catches the ball. - Donald Miralle
Coming hot off the heels of the big Brian Urlacher news last night, as well as the arrest of tight end Evan Rodriguez in Miami, the Chicago Bears have agreed to terms with a new addition to their offense.
Per the Bears mothership:
LM: #Bears agree to terms with tight end Steve Maneri on two-year contract.
— Chicago Bears (@ChicagoBears) March 21, 2013
Steve Maneri has had quite the storied career. Undrafted in 2010, he was signed by the Texans as an offensive tackle, but missed the final cuts.
He was then claimed by the Patriots, and then waived and signed to the practice squad 3 weeks later. Signed to a 2011 futures contract, he was waived in September of 2011. THEN he was picked up by the Chiefs. Before 2011, his position was shifted to tight end, the position he played in college.
Here are the NFL career stats for Steve Maneri (two seasons):
19 games played. 6 receptions on 14 targets. 52 yards. 3 first downs. And, well, that's it. A look at his college career gives you some glimpses into what he might do. n his last two years at temple, he recorded 26 receptions for 284 yards and 6 TDs, so he figures to be a pretty solid red zone addition to this offense, and complement Bennett's ability to make plays all over the field.
