2013 NFL Draft: TCU WR Josh Boyce

Christian Petersen

We look at TCU speed receiver Josh Boyce - does he have a place on the Bears?

The Bears' wide receiver corps is thin on one aspect - speed. Brandon Marshall, Alshon Jeffery and Earl Bennett have enough speed to play receiver, but none would be considered to be a burner. And those that would be considered burners are, well... Devin Hester hasn't been productive as a receiver in the last three years and Johnny Knox was let go from the team and could be done for his career. And Eric Weems is more a special teamer than an actual receiver. If the Bears don't go for a guy like Tavon Austin, they could wait for a bit for Josh Boyce.

Boyce is a smurf. He's listed on NFL.com at 5'11" and 206 pounds, but that muscle is pretty well packed on that frame. He ran a 4.38 at the combine with 22 reps on the bench and a 6.68 cone - not slow at all, and certainly not weak. He's a good blocker when he stays in front of his man, but doesn't always do that. Aside from that, he runs his routes well, cuts well, has great burst and can play the deep ball. He doesn't have any room to really grow further, so his development is pretty limited.

CBS lists Boyce as the 169th prospect overall and the 20th receiver, good for a 5th-round pick. WalterFootball currently places him at the Bears with pick 117 in the fourth round. SBN's site Frogs of War, the TCU blog, lists him as a 5th-round pick with a comparison to Brandon Lloyd.

Do you think the Bears have room for Boyce? What other speed receivers could you see the team taking late?
