The Bears currently have two quarterbacks on their roster in Jay Cutler and Josh McCown. Jay is obviously the starter and McCown a back up. Josh McCown has been an under average back up in my opinion after he appeared in three games in the 2011 season registering a 63.6 QBR tossing 4 picks and 2 TD's. I believe that the Bears should sign a better FA quarterback for the number 2 job. McCown couldn't weather the storm in the 2011 late-season collapse, and now that he is 33 I don't see it getting better. With this being said, ideally I would want Tyler Thigpen. He has respectable career numbers (rating: 72.5, TDs: 21 INTs:18) and is relatively still in his prime being 29. Another option that I think would be worth doing is bringing in JaMarcus Russell as a developmental player to battle for the 3rd spot, and eventually him move up to no. 2 if all pans out. I understand he is 275, has had off the field issues, and has been said to be lazy but I think it is worth a low money risk. His upside is undeniable, he has a truly elite arm, is athletic and is only 27, I think he's worth a minimum contract.
