Preseason Week 3 Thursday Night Football Open Thread

Leon Halip

So, who's tuning in to the first of the week 3 preseason games?  These are the ones considered the dress rehearsal for the regular season, the ones in which the starters typically play at least the first half and for which, unlike for the rest of the preseason, teams gameplan - if only a little.

New England Patriots v. Detroit Lions

Kicked off: 7.30pm ET.

Reason to watch: Division rivals, whom we face in our 4th game (at Ford Field) and again in the home game in week 10 which, as our bye week is in week 8, is our ninth game.  That latter game at Soldier field comes in a short week after a Monday Night game at Lambeau, so it's not going to be an easy one.  The Patriots, on the other hand, don't seem to be affected by their comparatively weak receiving corps. Damn that Tom Brady and their stable offensive system.

Carolina Panthers v. Baltimore Ravens

Kick off: 8pm ET.

Reason to watch: We face the reigning Super Bowl champions during the regular season at home, the week after the second Detroit game (week 11 / game 10). That's a pretty tough three-game stretch.  The Ravens have had to remake a chunk of their roster thanks to Joe Flacco's contract, but Ozzie Newsome's a wily operator and some pundits think their defense is even better this year than it was last season.

Have fun, and Open Thread responsibly.
