Heya Chi town fans. I'm your friendly neighborhood Viking and would like to start up a little inter team chat. I think I've done this here before so it'll be more of the same. First the Vikes.
First thing I'd like to say was that Detroit game was ROUGH. Our defense was basically ripped apart most of the game and if not for Detroit being, well Detroit I could have seen them scoring more than they did. They severely took advantage of our inexperience and line backer with Bush, and used quick passes to keep our front four from getting in Stafford's grill. Sadly it worked exceptionally well. We did get a bunch of tipped passes, but they moved the ball very well on us. Amazingly our DB's did a pretty solid job in the back field keeping the YAC down (other than buch) and holding Johnson to just 37 yards. Yeah Stafford got his yards (and a lot of them) but most of it really did come from the underneath. On offense after Peterson first run Detroit held him to 17 yards on 16 carries which was not good. Musgrave our OC couldn't seem to get out of his play calling rut and consistently set Ponder up in 3rd and long which allowed Detroit's front four (who are pretty dang good) to rush after him like a fat man after his last french fry. Needless to say Ponder had a lot of pressure and our offensive line ended up looking like a line of turnstiles leading into a subway. Our brand new punter was the worst in the league, and we had four turn overs. One because on a RUN block the guard was pressed back and tripped up the hand off, and three ints, one off of a receivers hands, one as Ponder was trying to throw it away and Suh got a hold of his arm, and the last in the fourth to seal us up. Bad bad bad...
So what do I see this week? Well, here's hoping you all can't bottle up AD twice. If he's stopped Minnesota is going to be in for a long long game. Ponder has got to stop throwing interceptions. When all your asking your QB to do is manage a game Ints are something he just can't throw. On a better note he completed two 40+ yard passes on Sunday which is 2/3rds of what he did last year so that's a bonus. Our receivers are much better which means guys like Simpson can get better match ups as people have to be more aware of Jennings and Kyle Rudolph. Our offensive line looked truly terrible and they are going to have to step up against the Bears. Kalil needs to get back on track or Peppers is going to have a great day. Our defense had horrible problems with Bush as he's shifty as hell and was great on the screens. Honestly I can see Forte doing the same things to us this week. Which will suck. If we're going to win this a lot of things have to change from last week, but I do think we have a chance.
Now to the Bears, how you all feeling about the loss of Urlacher now? Not missing a beat or the defense having some issues coping? Tressman looked like he got your offense moving last week, do you think Cutler has finally bought off on it? I hear success is a great way for the medicine to go down Your offensive line has lately been a point where I thought the Vikes easily out matched you but you put some money into it this year. Do you think it panned out? Oh and as Kluwe used to love kicking it to Hester, what do you think the chances of our new guy doing the same? How are you all feeling about your chances this year? Play offs? Super Bowl?
In the end I think this will be a good game but I hate to say it I think the Bears pull this out as we are terrible at Soldier field. Vikes 20 - Bears 27.
