all i want for christmas...is a new bears team

now that the season is over for all intents and purposes, we should start planning for the future with a sense of urgency. while i don't really care if anyone gets fired now, or at any time during the rest of the season, but by training camp next summer, i need to see the entire staff at halas hall replaced, starting at ted phillips and ending at the field crew. my dream would be that the bears be sold, but i doubt that would come true, but i will continue to state that until it does. the mccaskeys are the worst ownership family in north american sports and don't deserve to continue running their father's creation into the ground.

ted phillips' replacement should be a veteran football person, bill polian and mike holmgren come to mind, even jimmy johnson would be an idea, but he seems happy to remain in television. whoever it is, it should be a person capable of establishing a culture of winning while running the franchise like a football team, rather than a cash cow. i would love to have the president actively work to terminate the lease at soldier field with the intention of building a new stadium with a retractable dome.

from there, i'm open to ideas on the GM and coaching staff, but they should all be selected based on the idea that the team is in full rebuilding mode and that no player is untouchable. the expectation should be that the team has 3 years to become a perennial super bowl contender. scheme should be up to the incoming coaching staff, whether it be 4-3 or 3-4, spread offense or whatever, but there needs to be a synergy between all three phases of play so that they compliment each other.

from a player standpoint, i'd like to see a quarterback, middle linebacker and a safety drafted with the idea that they will be the team leaders and faces of the franchise.

for me, the moves that the mccaskey family makes from now until the start of next season will show whether or not they want to own a successful franchise in chicago. since taking control of the team in the 80's, they haven't, and actually seem to be fine with the flagship franchise of the nfl being a mediocre afterthought. while i'll always be a bears fan, i can't waste my loyalty on an organization that has none towards a city that has embraced it.
