Superstition: Pick Number Coinciding with Year Number (14th overall in 2014)

This year, the Chicago Bears have the honour of making a selection at the 14th spot, which coincides with the last two digits of the current year. Such a correspondence made me consider if there was any pattern available, maybe to see if it brought some 'magic.'

Here are the picks that coincide with the year. You decide if there is anything funny going on:

2001 - 1st overall - QB Michael Vick (ATL)

2002 - 2nd overall - DE Julius Peppers (CAR)

2003 - 3rd overall - WR Andre Johnson (HOU)

2004 - 4th overall - QB Phillip Rivers (NYG-->SD)

2005 - 5th overall - HB Carnell Williams (TB)

2006 - 6th overall - TE Vernon Davis (SF)

2007 - 7th overall - HB Adrian Peterson (MIN)

2008 - 8th overall - DE Derrick Harvey (JAX)

2009 - 9th overall - DT BJ Raji (GB)

2010 - 10th overall - DT Tyson Alualu (JAX)

2011 - 11th overall - DE JJ Watt (HOU)

2012 - 12th overall - DT Fletcher Cox (PHI)

2013 - 13th overall - DT Sheldon Richardson (NYJ)

2014 - 14th overall - ?? ????? ?????? (CHI)

What can we gather from this?

Well, it looks as if you might get a stud with a year-coinciding pick, unless you're operations are based within the Sunshine State. Also, we see a trend of defensive lineman, with six in a row dating back to the 2008 draft and 54% of all year-coinciding picks.

This is obviously not an indicator of anything, but superstition is on the side of the Bears and those who want a first round DT/DE.
