Chicago Bears sign wide receiver Josh Morgan

Rob Carr

The Chicago Bears continue adding to the depth of their roster. Competition breeds success and newly signed Josh Morgan will bring his career 199 receptions, in 79 games, with 54 starts to the Bears receiving group.

Earlier today the Chicago Bears announced a one year deal for wide out Josh Morgan, who played in Washington the last two seasons. Prior to that he played four years with the San Francisco 49ers. Last season in 14 games and seven starts he had 20 receptions for 214 yards. He also returned a combined 20 punts and kickoffs, although it's not known if the Bears plan to use him in the return game.

Rich Campbell of the Chicago Tribune calls the 6', 218 pound Morgan a "Rugged blocker" and a "possession" receiver. So he should fit right in with the Bears current group of wide outs.

His signing represents the biggest competition to 2nd year pro Marquess Wilson, who has been working on his craft down in Florida at Brandon Marshall's training facility. Marshall and Alshon Jeffery are entrenched as the starting receivers, with Morgan and Wilson joining Josh Bellamy, Domenik Hixon, Terrence Toliver, Eric Weems and Chris Williams for a spot on the final 53 man roster. There's also a chance the Bears bring in a rookie or three to add to the mix.

What are your thoughts on how the wide out competition will shake out?
