Let's just trade down

Let's trade down! I see this in the forums several time on every post. I am not against the idea, especially if we get a good value for it. What question that did raise for me is how often do picks get traded in the first round, how many times do the first round picks trades move between teams, and which pick is involved most commonly in trade and which the least. I put together a quick Google Doc that goes back to 2000.The numbers I put down were the total number of times that picks were traded between team. If the value is one it means that the pick was traded once from one team to another. if the value was 2 it was traded twice, once from the original team than again. I than summed the total number of times the picks were traded around (the value of 1,2 or 3) and the sum of the number of time picks were traded (always a value of 1).

I was surprised to see how many picks are involved in trades. Since 2000, 164 picks have traded in the first round and those picks were traded around 198 times. On average, 11.71 picks are involved in a trade each year. The most common traded pick is 16th with 10 , however 26th has been moved around just as much a the 16th with a value of 12.The least traded pick is the 1st overall pick with only once since 2000 (Michael Vick). The 14th selection has been traded involved trades 6 times over the last year and changed hands 7 times. I am not sure if anyone else find this kind of stuff interesting, but I sure do.
