Top-flight rugby players have received six-month bans for one-off incidents such as shoving a referee after a loss, and for drunkenly trashing a trophy on a night out. Luis Suarez, whose ugly history includes an eight-match ban for racially abusing another player, is out four months for biting an opponent for the third (possibly fourth) time.

Cutler relishes bond with Marshall - Larry Mayer: Entering their sixth season together as teammates, Jay Cutler was thrilled to hear about the contract extension that Brandon Marshall signed with the Bears in May.

Team Report - The SportsXchange with a roundup of the Bears' latest offseason news following the conclusion of veteran minicamp.

Roster analysis: Centers and guards - Michael C. Wright: No player on the roster will push either Slauson or Long for their starting jobs, and there's a good chance James Brown won't make the cut.

Rookie spotlight: DT Ego Ferguson - Dan Durkin: Quick on his feet but with handwork in need of improvement, the Bears will deploy him on early downs and short-distance, where he should immediately make an impact against the run.

Safety position still up for grabs - Mike North: Adrian Wilson is on the downside, and his signing sends an ominous signal to Bears fans.

Team notes - [Buried in Dan Pompei's column]: The Bears are working with a sleep therapist in an attempt to maximize performance and enhance quality of life for their players.

NFL veterans to appreciate - Adam Schein spotlights nine veterans to savor now before Father Time calls them off the field, and calls upon Bears fans to appreciate Charles Tillman.

Brandon Marshall can't wait for the NFL season to get here - Marshall posted some pictures and videos on his personal Instagram account from the photoshoot he had that will likely air on NBC's Sunday Night Football next season.
