Mundy Morning (More Pop: Solid Average to Above Average SS)

Yes, I know it is Sunday but if ESPN can call Thursday Monday I can call Sunday Monday to make my title work.

To me Ryan Mundy, when he was with the Giants, had some pop to his tackles. His missed tackle rate was very low, just a handful of missed tackles. He also seemed to cover pretty well. He is no speed demon but he takes good angles and seems to play smart. It looked like he was dinged up a bit and did not play much if any in some of the games from last year. When he came back they just played him on special teams and in the second half of the 4th quarter on D of that game and he still racked up 7 tackles.

He was a good pickup, by the Chicago Bears, for the Strong Safety position not the Free Safety position like I have read in various places on the inter-web.

I should note that he did not get hung out to dry too much by the Giants so his ability to have the same production may rely on us not sucking on D this year. Watching his play and seeing the bit of pop he has with his tackles was nice but don’t think he is going to "Doug Plank" anyone. Besides in this day and age that would get you fined, a suspension, and probably a little time on Rikers Island (all expenses paid).

In my opinion he is a Solid Average to Above Average Strong Safety. If the rest of our D can pull it together this year look for him making Above Average marks.
