Tim Holt Hired by the Chicago Bears to Coach the O-Line

The coaching staff would appear set with the addition of Tim Holt, late of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, to coach the offensive line. Bears head coach Lovie Smith had this to say:

"He’s the perfect fit," Smith told ChicagoBears.com. "He’s an impressive guy; a young coach coming up through the ranks. I think he’s going to bring something to the room. He’s exactly what we were looking for at that position."

Jeremy Bates hired as new Chicago Bears QB Coach

Jeremy Bates is the new QB Coach for the Chicago Bears

The Bears have hired Jeremy Bates as their new quarterbacks coach. The last time Bates and Jay Cutler worked together Cutty was voted into the Pro Bowl. There was no mention of the title 'passing game coordinator' from the Bears official statement on the hire. That's not to say he isn't going to take on that task, but so far all we know is that he'll coach the QBs.

He definitely has the chops to coordinate the passing game, if that is the Bears intention. In 2010 he was the offensive coordinator of the NFC West champion Seattle Seahawks. In 2009 he worked closely with the USC offense, and he spent time in Denver working with Mike Shanahan from 2006-2008. He also spent time as an offensive assistant in Tampa Bay (2002-04) and in New York with the Jets (2005).

Poor guy. Thinks he might be the next GM one week, and unemployed the next.

The on the verge of hiring dir. of college scouting Phil Emery as GM. NFL sources said just a matter now of dotting the i's.

Not Marc Ross of the Super Bowl-bound Giants as many had thought...more after the jump.

Update: The Bears are saying not so fast on this one, per Zach Zaidman of 670 The Score:

say no deal has been reached yet to fill their general manager vacancy

Could be a case of not wanting to go Dave McGinnis on this situation. Keep checking back for additional updates.

Julius Peppers named to the Pro Bowl

CHICAGO, IL - DECEMBER 04: Tyler Palko #4 of the Kansas City Chiefs is sacked by Henry Melton #69 and Julius Peppers #90 of the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field on December 4, 2011 in Chicago, Illinois. The Chiefs defeated the Bears 10-3. (Photo by Jonathan Daniel/Getty Images)

With the New York Giants, and defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul advancing to the Super Bowl, the NFL announced that Chicago Bears DE Julius Peppers will take his roster spot at the Pro Bowl. It's his 7th selection in 10 seasons. His inclusion brings the total Bears selected to play in Hawaii to six. Not bad for a non-playoff team.
