Game Preview
Super Bowl Pre-Party Open Thread
I feel like I might have missed something in the wake of all the Pro-Bowl hype and awesomeness. ... Oh, wait, never mind, the game that everyone talks about and decides the NFL championship is this week. My bad.
Yes, a week after the irrelevancy contest that is the NFL Pro Bowl, the Giants and Patriots square off in a rematch of the 2007-08 Super Bowl, when Eli Manning, David Tyree's helmet, and the New York Giants' pass rush derailed a Patriots offensive juggernaut cruising for a perfect season.
For my take on the game itself, hit the jump. Otherwise, this is your open thread until gametime. As always, Open Thread Responsibly (TM).
Happy New Year: Week 17, Bears at Vikings Pre-Party Open Thread
First off, a very Happy New Year to you and yours.
Today's game features two teams that might be grateful it's a new year. The Bears closed out 2011 on a five-game losing streak, while the Vikings have been bad bordering on miserable the entire season. An individual win in this season might not do much for the current NFL standings (as both teams are out of the playoff chase), but it'll feel good to close out the year with a win.
The Bears season's downfall is well documented, between the injuries to Jay Cutler and Matt Forte, subsequent events of the Hanie Escapades, Tebowing and the Broncos' defense, and culminating in a recent trip to Lambeau that officially finished off the thread that was the Bears' playoff chances. They'll look to finish the season on a high note as they take on a Vikings team that will be starting Christian Ponder today, but will be without their biggest playmaker in Adrian Peterson.

Out With A Bang: Week 16, Bears At Packers Pre-Party Open Thread
So yesterday, in defeating the Chargers, the Lions put one nail in the coffin of the Bears' playoff chances by waxing the Chargers and securing their first playoff spot of the century. The Falcons can put the other nail in by beating the Saints on Monday Night Football.
But until then, the Bears are still mathematically in this, and as we know all too well, anything can happen. So if the Bears have to exit the playoff chase tomorrow, might as well make it worth it tonight. And they can do that against a 13-1 Packers team coming off its first loss of the season and without Greg Jennings.
The Bears' offense puts Josh McCown on the field as the starting quarterbacks, over benched and ineffective interim starter Caleb Hanie. Hey, remember when the Bears were putting up about 27 points per game with Cutler and Forte on the field? Seems like so long ago, back when the Bears were in full control of their playoff destinies.

2011 Week 15: Pre-Game Open Thread
Chalk this up to something you won't see this week: Sam Hurd.
Yes, by now most of you have heard the unsettling news that Sam Hurd is reportedly the Pablo Escobar of the Chicago Bears. As such, he was deftly terminated by the team.
Beyond that, the Bears now don't control their own destiny, because they wet the bed against Tebow, it could be a long day again on offense as Caleb Hanie goes up against a hard-hitting Seahawks defense, and, well, you know the rest.
There's some stuff after the jump.
Sunday Slugfest? Bears-Seahawks features formidable rush defenses
Sunday's game could get ugly. Since Cutler and Forte went down the Bears have been in low-scoring, mostly defensive battle-type games. Lot's of field goals, lots of rushing attempts and a few passes. This week's game though, will be different, especially for the offense. Follow me below and I am going to look at some stats and try to draw some conclusions about the Bears chances this Sunday. I'll give you a magic 8-ball preview: Outlook doesn't look good.

Sleeper of the Week: S Craig Steltz
That is not a typo. And yes, I'm fully in control of my own account here - this is not Dane.
With Major Wright out, fourth year man Craig Steltz gets the start at the strong safety position. We've beaten up on Steltz on numerous occasions here in the comment threads, much to the chagrin of Mr. Noble. His one interception that one time has become a punchline, and people wondered why he was still on the team with the acquisition of Brandon Meriweather and the drafting of Chris Conte.
The thing with Steltz is he's a solid special teams player who makes solid tackles, and this week, making his fourth career start, should play nicely to his strengths. Let's look at how his abilities make him the Sleeper of the Week.
Backups Become Starters: Week 12, Chiefs At Bears Pre-Party (Open Thread)
Feels like forever since the Bears have had a noon kickoff. But that's what we get today when the 7-4 Bears face off against the 4-7 Kansas City Chiefs.
The Chiefs have had an up and down time of it this year. The season looked like it'd be a pretty interesting one based off their finish to last season, but they started off losing 41-7 to the Buffalo Bills, then lost Jamaal Charles and Eric Berry for the year in week 2. They rattled off four straight wins to bring them to 4-3... and since then they've only scored one touchdown and lost starting quarterback Matt Cassel for the remainder of the year. Last week they acquired Kyle Orton off the waiver wire, and if Tyler Palko gets off to a rough start today (and/or matches the two 0 TD/3 INT performances he's mustered this season), the pressure will be on more than it already is for Orton to play.
The Chiefs still bring a fairly decent receiving corps, Tamba Hali and a solid secondary unit, so they aren't completely without teeth, but things aren't looking so rosy in KC.
As for the navy and orange, last week started off as a wakeup call for their own backup quarterback Caleb Hanie - after throwing two first quarter interceptions of his own, Hanie threw a pair of touchdown passes and another INT as the Bears lost a kicking duel to Sebastian Janikowski and the Oakland Raiders. He gets another chance to show he can be the guy to lead the Bears through the playoff hunt as the team looks for its first win with Hanie at the helm.
Can you name the Chiefs' quarterback? Gameday related linkage after the jump.
2011 Week 12: Chicago Bears at Oakland Raiders Pre-Game Open Thread
We've got a very busy day for you today, what with the Early Game, then the BEARS at Raiders, and then a night game where Pittsburgh will, most likely absolutely destroy the Kansas City Chiefs.
Look after the jump where we have some links for you, some sexy pictures, the reason Suh got himself ejected, and a seminal song. Otherwise, your early game thread goes up at noon CT, Bears thread at 3pm CT, and nighty-night thread around 7. Have a good night.
