Projecting Starters - Safety Edition
With organized team activities - or OTA if you're feeling abbreviated - underway, rookies and free agent additions are taking the (practice) field for the first time with the team and the Bears' starting lineup has been revealed. With the team's new additions, there are obviously a lot of starting positions that could change between now and the first game of the regular season. So, that means the time has come for a way too early guess as to who will be starting for the Bears once the season kicks off. First up, the safety position.
Could Michael Bush Get The Push For The Bears?
It's been going on for a long time now, and there still doesn't seem an end on sight. Of course, I am referring to the contract situation between the Chicago Bears and their star running back Matt Forte. Even the voices that were previously shouting 'pay Forte' have begun to go ominously quiet, as frustration seems to be setting in, both with the fans and surely with the Bears organization as well. But fear not. Forte is not the only running back on the roster. Could we see Michael Bush as the starting RB by the time beginning of the season rolls around? Read on to find out.

"...where the only good thing about all the Tebow coverage is that we've been reminded of Lolo Jones' existence."
Simple approach may be all Bears offense needs - Jim Miller: Bears were never going to be the greatest show on grass under former OC Martz.
Does Hardin finally solve Bears' woes at safety? - Bears have drafted a safety in each of the eight drafts in which Lovie Smith has operated as the team's head coach and still the position is a concern.
USAToday team report - Marshall: "If off-the-field isn't right, then nine times out of 10, it's going to be real hard to perform on the field."

The Shanahan/Bates Offense, Part 1: The Bootleg
Last week, I took a look at some of the offensive plays used by Mike Tice during his years with the Vikings. Now, I want to turn my attention to what quarterbacks coach Jeremy Bates is going to bring to the party. It's no secret that Jay Cutler never shined in the offensive systems of Ron Turner and Mike Martz the way he did when he was with the Broncos. With Jeremy Bates, Brandon Marshall, and Cutler back together, though, the hope is that the Bears can design an offense that will once again play to Cutler's strengths. First up, a look at a staple of the Shanahan offense: the bootleg.

To Fanpost or not to Fanpost...
... that is the question. And the answer is a resounding, Yes. Windy City Gridiron has a very active membership, and the comment threads are always a good read. Many times it's the comments that generate even more discussion on a particular WCG article, and often times the thought provoking comments are from members that never write Fanposts. Some of the comments are so lengthy and detailed they could be stand alone posts. If you've ever wondered if you should write one, we say stop wondering and Do It. Do It Now.
Poll: Do the Chicago Bears need Matt Forte to win a Super Bowl?
Here's a quick list for you to ponder; Ahmad Bradshaw, James Starks, Pierre Thomas, Willie Parker, Dominic Rhodes, Corey Dillon, Antowain Smith, and Michael Pittman. Those were the leading rushers for the last 10 Super Bowl winning teams. Bradshaw and Parker each lead their teams in rushing yards in two Super Bowls. The reason I'm bringing this list to light is to show the trend of the type of running back that is picking up championship rings. Between those eight players they share six Pro Bowl appearances, Parker was a 2 time Pro Bowler and Dillon played in 4.
Where would you rank Matt Forte on that list?
Matt Forte Not Attending OTA Sessions
Matt Forte won't practice with his team while in an on-going contract dispute.Michael Bush is taking the first team reps during OTAs this week, as reported by the SEIF over at ESPN.
This should surprise exactly no one on the planet, but Forte is continuing to try and use whatever leverage he has left to get that new deal.
Some thoughts after the jump.

"...where we know the difference between homophobic and homophonic."
Bears add ex-Jaguar to DT mix - Sign Nate Collins to a one-year contract.
Chris Williams is back at left tackle - No word on if he plans to have a "nation" and to sell shoddy t-shirts to its members. Highlights OL shuffling.
Biggs: Observations from Bears OTAs - Why is Brad Biggs the best? He mentions Pat Mannelly. No other beat reporters did.
