Benson might not get it

I am sure everybody connected to Cedric Benson has been telling him that the gig is his and it might be, but he doesn't quite seem to understand how things work and how tempramental this game can be.

With Thomas Jones being down with a hamstring problem, Benson started to state his case for the starting spot with his play.  He then hurt his shoulder and is out for a period of time.  Meanwhile, TJ is back on the field and if he can perform like we think he can, Benson might find himself back on the bench.

Cocky as ever Benson left the sidelines of Friday's game against the Chargers during the first quarter simply because he wanted to watch the game from a TV in the equipment manager's office.

Benson received what one source called severe punishment.  I don't know what that entials, but it doesn't help get you on the field any quicker.

The big questions is who is the source.  It is rumored that Benson is not well liked in the locker room and a player leaked the incident and punishment.  To add to his problems, he doesn't seem to care that he is liked by his team.  I am not saying it is the most important thing, but if a team doesn't have faith in you, your road might just as easily lead off a team.

what
a wastred pick that would turn out to be, hard to sell high on a guy who has proved nothing and many have attitude issues.

jeez
Maybe we can still dump him on Denver and have Pope be our #3 RB? It's a good thing we got the Best Available TalentTM®© at the #4 pick two drafts ago. Plus, we could've drafted busts like Carnell Williams or Shawne Merriman. Glad we avoided those mistakes.
Really big cracks require a lot of caulk.

Don't get me started...
On the whole best available athlete thing.  I think its the worst way to draft.  If you don't need the best player TRADE DOWN!!!

May I voice again
how damn stupid it was to disrespect Thomas Jones by putting him as the #2 back just cause he didn't go to "voluntary" off-season camp.

You need them both, but you don't hand a job to an unproven rookie cause the other guy chose to stay at home this off-season. It's not like he got fat, he worked out on his own.

I generally like Lovie, but a huge misstep in my opinion. In the end, it probably won't matter much, but I just don't get the reasoning.

I don't have the time or resources to check this
but I gotta think that in the last, say, 10 years most high first round draft choices don't end up staying with the team that drafted them (the exception I think being QB's). I sense that this is a trend cuz the picks don't like the teams that originally draft them, and they fly the coop ASAP.

Maybe Benson is trying to fly the coop early. If so, he's a moron, cuz Chicago is one of the best football cities in all of America. All it'll take for his teammates to trust him is a few good games, and things'll be rosey for him.

And, yes, this make the organization's disrespect for Thomas Jones look even more egregious.

I could see that in general as
most teams don't get better based on one draft pick.  Chicago just happens to be a team that is good and ready to contend.  Granted from what he says many coaches and players don't like him.  He says it doesn't bother him, it looks like maybe it does.

Far cry from the Benson crying on draft day about his dream coming true.

Benson
He KNOWS he's supposed to be there the whole game. He KNOWS he's supposed to be at the meeting afterwords. He's testing this team to see what they let a #1 pick get away with.
He should have been fined and made an example of before this gets any worse.
Jones gets demoted and Benson gets slapped on the wrist?
hit him in his earhole

We have no
idea what the punishment was.  Every where we read it says severe, I have no idea what it meant, but I doubt it was just a stern talking to.

Pick #4 two years ago...
Hindsight is 20/20. Benson was supposed to be the durable workhorse...now he has had 2 injuries.

I wanted Derrick Johnson who is with the Chiefs now...everyone called me crazy but that guy is a beast at outside linebacker. Him or Merriman would've been awesome.
