With Detroit, Minnesota, New Orleans and Carolina all taking the loss the Bears had an opportunity to make some head way in the NFC playoff race.

It looked bleak at times and when Brian Griese went out it looked worse, but with two TDs late in the 4th quarter the Bears get the win and move to 4-5.

Grossman who came in to fill in for the injured Brian Griese played decent throwing for 142 yards on 10 passes for a 10.1 average which in Chicago is big news. He had a 52 yard TB pass to Bernard Berrian and no interceptions.

The run game again looked like nothing special. Benson had 76 yards on 29 carries for another whopping average of 2.9.

Berrian and Mushin Muhammad both had 4 receptions for 80+ yards. Desmond Clark, Cedric Benson and Adrian Peterson all had multiple receptions.

The Bears defense showed a little of something that they used to have allowing only 108 in the air and 113 combined rushing yards.

Ogunleye had 3 sacks and Briggs had one. Danieal Manning had on INT.

Defense gets this win ...

big time. The offense was atrocious save Rex's bomb to Berrian. Cedric Benson is not cutting the mustard.

It wasn't pretty

but a win is a win. It isn't college football where you move up in the polls with a blowout. Win by one or win by 50, it all counts the same. Defense looked better, the offense is still atrocious. Rex wasn't great, but he didn't turn the ball over and played well enough to get the win. I still think it is a long shot to make the playoffs; we still have two teams way out in front of us in our own division and one of them, the Lions, has already swept us this season. One week at a time I guess.

We're

only two games behind the Giants now (and the Lions, but since they have the tiebreak we're actually three games behind them, unless we beat the Packers and the Packers beat the Lions both times, then the "head to head" tie break doesn't really work, but that is a VERY unlikely scenario). They're 1 back of the Redskins. The play both teams. Tied with the Saints, whom they play. I'm not sure how good the Giants really are as they're victories have come over mediocre teams and even the "higher" level teams they played were close games, so they could potentially go 3-4 or worse to end the season.

Nothing is outside of the realm of possibilities, especially if our defense plays like it did against the Raiders.

The realm of possibility.

Nothing's outside the realm of possibility. All we have to do is win the games. If we do that, we're in the playoffs. There's plenty of time, and there aren't enough dominant teams in the NFC that we should expect that a team ahead of us in the wildcard race is going to make a 7-0 (or even 6-1 run) - and the odds of two teams pulling that off are really small. We have a fairly light schedule from here on out, and most of the teams who are a threat to our wildcard hopes are in our schedule. It's a good position to be in. All we have to do is win the games.

light?

I wouldn't call Washington, Giants, Green Bay, and New Orleans light, especially when you essentially need to undefeated to get in the playoffs (or at worst, you can lose one game).

The Giants and Packers are probably the 2nd and 3rd best teams in the NFC, New Orleans finally remembered that they have an offense, and Washington has played consistently well most of the year. Though luckily only one of those games is on the road.

Of course... Seattle is not an easy game either.

Can the Bears win out? I think so... I think they have the talent to still be one of the better teams in the league. But I am not necessarily confident that they actually will, nor do I think that they have an easy schedule from here on out.

NYG-Wash

The toughest portion of the schedule left are the two games against the Giants and Redskins seperated by 4 days. And ending against the Saints and Packers will be tough games too. Hopefully the Pack will have things wrapped up by then and be looking to rest starters. The Saints might be tougher since they'll likely be fighting for a playoff spot too.

Lets first just get back to .500 and stop losing the week after winning a 'must-win season-saving' game.

same thing every week

win a game against the packers, playoff bound.
lose against the vikings, too many holes
Win against philly, on the right track
lose to detroit, DONE.
win against a horrible oaklans team, still in the mix.

i'll get excited when we actually show improvement against a decent team.

improvement vs bad teams

I'd take the Bears showing improvement vs bad teams. And by no means was yesterdays win over the Raiders an improvement. If the Bears are a playoff bound team, they did not show it. There was no way that Oakland should have been in the game for as long as they were. Benson should've had 120+ yds on the number of carries he had.

The Bears pinched off a loaf of a victory against a bad team and showed little for it. Three turnovers were nice, as were some of Rex's deep passes, but I'm still not convinced about this team. They can make the post season, but it will be a first-round exit in the playoffs.
