Garcia Would Like To Be A Bear?

This article while not all that in depth does at least hit on most of the names as far as available QBs go.

Garcia looks to be the biggest winner in free agency and might be sizing up the Bears.

''That's a team that is really well put together defensively and offensively,'' Garcia told the newspaper. ''That is a situation where you have to be honest with yourself and take a look at it. I'm not going to lie. That would be a situation that would make me think about certain things. Whether that happens or not, we'll have to see.''

All that is great, but we all know Garcia wants the money and the starting gig, if he can't find that with Chicago, then he will go else where.

As far as the other QBs out there, should we decide to bring one in, here is my take.

I am not interested in Plummer, Garcia, Leftwich or Schaub.  The first three are scrubs and the last thing we need is another QB that we are not sure what we are getting.

As mentioned in a prior post if by some miracle it did happen, I would be interested in Mcnabb.

The name that intrigues me the most is David Carr.  I still think he can be a great QB.  Get him behind a line that will you know block, give him a consistent running back and there could be something there.  Berrian was also a teammate of Carr's back in college, nice connection to have if you are looking to get him.

Carr
Garcia is riding high on a wave of solid second half play.  That's clearly not enough for me to be buying him.  Especially, when you consider how bad he's been for years before this.

I still think Carr can be a solid QB, but it's a little bit of a myth that he hasn't had anyone to play with.

He has one of the absolute best WR's in the league in Andre Johnson.  He's also played, in previous years, with a very versatile and productive RB in Dominick Davis.

Not that Carr isn't going to be better than Rex, but he's still to much of an unknown to bring him in to our situation.

I think Carr is great...
That guy has had some decent skill position guys around him but he has never had an offensive line.  That got has got sacked more times than groceries.  I'm not saying we should try to get him, I'm just saying that with a good line, I think he'd be really good.

Happy Feet
and not the good kind....

And while this might not necessarily be a bad thing at times, I think he's more afraid of turning the ball over than trying to make something happen. That actually might be good for us, but for a crap team like the Texans, he probably should have tried to make things happen a little more often.

But out of all the QB's being talked about it, he's the only one that even remotely interests me. But I really doubt the Bears will do anything at the QB position to be honest...

Well...
Sounds like we should swap Rex for Carr...although i fear Rex may develop the same fear of forcing the ball and turning the ball over after the criticism he had to endure this year, which would just be a shame. At least when Rex fucks up, he fucks up gloriously and goes down with a bang.

he fucks up gloriously
yes he does.
I was ready to dump him after Sunday yet I want him to succeed so bad.
Where does that leave us?
If he were to be replaced it could only be with Carr.
hit him in his earhole

Just ask Detroit and Clevand
Don't get me wrong I am not a fan of Rex, but there is no point bring in a guy who is an aging running quarterback who two years ago was giving the Bears two guarentee wins on their schedule in Detroit and the year before was not doing anything in Clevand. The bottom line is no one is going to happy with the QB situation in Chicago until the Bears win a Super Bowl no matter whose the QB. Hence Kyle Orton who went 10-3 as a starter with every person in Chicago calling for his head and this year with Rex who went 15-4. They both win games but that is not good enough in Chicago, I would rather have a QB who is going to win games than taking a chance on an untested aging player.

Garcia
Garcia to the Bears is all the rage here in Philly and elsewhere.  I've heard local sportstalk as well as national (Mike & Mike) talk about how Garcia seems like he would be the perfect fit in Chicago.  This, in the immortal words of Jim Mora, is a bunch of diddly poo.  Here is why:
  1. The Bears already have a Jeff Garcia, his name is Brian Griese.  And he will be in Chicago another few years.  No need to have two aging, 'game managing' QBs that you are paying handsomely.
  2. People seem to forget that Garcia is not Peyton Manning.  In signing Garcia, the Bears would not be acquiring a bonafide stud looking to use his last one or two good years on a Super Bowl contender. Rather Garcia, while having a nice half-season in Philly (which was more a result of increasing Westbrook's carries), is an average QB who is going to be overpaid despite being a bust in Cleveland and Detroit.
If the Bears are to 'start over' at QB (thus making Grossman a lame duck in '07), their only option is Carr and if they feel that that is the direction in which to go, then I agree with them.  That said, media aside, I don't think Grossman should be considered 'finished' by any means and I trust the brass to make the right call.

I think you guys would be great with Leftwich
You could offer him the protection needed to let him wind up and wing the pig.
Go Seahawks!!!

re: carr or leftwich
if the price is low, maybe. but those are the only ones i would consider. we already have griese, we don't need more veteran game managers like garcia. quite honestly, i think rex will really improve next year, considering the coaches actually have a full season of play of his to evaluate and figure out what he needs to work on.

Fuck all those guys...
I want Rex.

For real.  He's still young and I think he has much more upside/potential than anyone mentioned here.  Let us not forgot that he took us to the Super Bowl for chrissake.  If not for his playmaking, we would have lost to the Hawks or the Saints.

He came up short in the big game.  Sheesh!  Roethlisberger played much worse and no one cared.  Sure they won, but it was IN SPITE OF HIM.   No one called for him to get benched going into this year.

by Chad @ Windy City Gridiron on Feb 8, 2007 2:29 PM CST reply actions

since you mentioned it
and I was curious I digged it up

Grossman        20/28, 165 yards, 1 TD, 2 INT
Roethlisberger   9/23, 123 yards, 0 TD, 2 INT

It's amazing what a victory will do for perception.

I'm not defending Grossman cause he did have a rough game, but I'm not going to call for his head either. Let's see what the kid does next year.

first the Rush...now the Bears.

What were Grossman's
numbers before the last 2 garbage drives?

Still better....
Assuming that on the last two drives he had no incomplete passes (which he had at least one), he only missed on 8 passes.  Before the two 'garbage' drives, he still had a touchdown, compared to Big Ben's 0.

by Chad @ Windy City Gridiron on Feb 8, 2007 4:02 PM CST up reply actions

Fine, I'll do the math
9/11 73 yards on his last 2 drives when the Colts were in prevent...

11/17 92 yards before that

So he had a short yardage TD over Ben because TJ couldn't run it in the first 2 times, great!!!

That 20/28 though doesn't mean anything...

I'm fine with Rex next year, pretty good for his first full year. He has A LOT to work on though and it's not small stuff.

Whoa....
I'm not saying that Rex's performance looked like Montana compared to Ben, I'm just saying it was better.  And it was.  If only slightly.

by Chad @ Windy City Gridiron on Feb 8, 2007 4:35 PM CST up reply actions

thank you
yeah, rex had a bad game, but most young QBs (brady aside - he's a probably HOFer) put up quite a few stinkers in the beginning. big ben has been lauded by most pundits, but seriously, the dude has had some horrid games...and not to hate on ben, he's young, he'll get more consistent w/ time, too. his superbowl performance was far worse than grossman's, and he arguably had a better offense to work with, a defense that played much better, friendly refs, and a better offensive game plan.

by guy incognito on Feb 8, 2007 3:59 PM CST up reply actions

there may only be next year
not sure I want to wait for Rex to figure out things he has been told since pee wee.

Rex Grossman = Kyle Boller
So says Mel Kiper who I'm going to have to agree with on this one.

Speaking of QB's
I guess Sean Payton is getting into the act of mocking Tony Romo

Romo will do the holding duties in the Pro Bowl
