Jones a Jet, Ced is the man

I tell you what, a man can't even go to see a movie without something big going down.

As if you haven't been reading the diary section, the Bears have traded running back Thomas Jones to the New York Jets.

The deal, still dependent on Jones passing a physical and agreeing to a new contract, sends Jones and their number 63 pick in the 2nd round of this year's draft in exchange for the Jets #37 2nd round pick.

Personally, I am a fan of Thomas Jones, but we picked Benson to be our franchise running back.  We are paying him a lot of money, time to give him the reigns and see what he can do.

I am not looking to step on whatever Angelo has in mind, but I wouldn't mind packaging the two and moving up. At least from a "get somebody we have heard of" stand point. Nothing against Danieal Manning, but it made for awful posting.

TJ
did well for us while he was in Chicago, but his days with the Bears are numbered.  I'd worry that we're not getting enough value for him, but as always when it comes to draft plans, I have my faith in Angelo.

The Bears did better than I'd hope
running backs are simply a dime a dozen in today's salary cap NFL.  I previously figured a 4th round pick as compensation, so if they get the equivalent of a 3rd (the value of moving that many spots in the second round) they did pretty good.

Well...
This saddens me, i've grown to love TJ quite a bit and it will suck to see him go...especially when i'm still not convinced Ced can carry the load and go a whole season and not be injured.

We could certainly use a scat-back to accompany Ced's straight forward running style. Maybe...Bush from Louisville?

bush
i was thinkin the same thing when i saw where we had our two picks. as far as i know, he was healthy until he broke his leg. i dont think benson can hack bein the lead guy for the bears. i liked to two back concept we had last year, one speed or slasher back and then benson who just punishes corners and safety's

The bears got worked...
Thomas Jones for a 2nd is good value. Thomas Jones + a second for a second is no where near good value.

That said, it's not as if the market for RBs is terribly thin. There may not have been that much out there, and if Jones wanted out they had no choice...

I think this was a big mistake
Thomas Jones is a proven, tough dependable RB in this league. Benson is potential bust and looks like a china doll to me. You need two good RB's so this just doesn't make sense to me.

I think the Bears are gonna regret this one big time.

Agreed, but
You have to take into account that they had no choice. He wanted out. He'd been demanding a trade for a year. You can't keep a guy like that around. Eventually you have to take the best you can get and move on.

terry not liking this trade
makes me feel a little better, even if I do think its horrible.

Well...
It isn't like they had a lot of other options...you can't keep an unhappy player for too long...look at Randy Moss and the Raiders.

I'm in the twightlight zone here...
Am I the only one that believes this is a raw deal that Angelo in his infinite wisdom believes that this was the for the good of the organization?

Don't answer that yet!  This brings me back to the days of good ole "Cade" and "Enis" who were huge BUSTS and their attitudes linked to their  performance!  How may millions does it take?  Angelo is risking a great deal for probably will turn out to be a bust!

Instead of having the "Balls" to make the right decision and going steady as she goes with a solid, solid running game to help uplight the dismal performance of the great quarterback (another bust).  Maybe he shouldn't keep Lovie after all.  The idiotic thing to do, would to bring back "Dick J."!  And I mean "DICK"!

Chicago trades solid performers for possible busts.  Think about it!
