Urlacher Fined 100,000

The NFL has fined All-World MLB Brian Urlacher 100,000 for wearing gear that had a non-approved sponsor.

During media day prior to the Super Bowl, Urlacher wore a hat that advertised vitaminwater as well as drank the drink as opposed to NFL approved Gatorade.

This is the first time such a fine has been handed out and is so steep because of the venue.  If it had been during the season it would have been 10,000 and 50,000 if it had been during the Pro Bowl.

O.K.
Silly rule, should have known better.

Why did it take so long to dish out the fine? During the season fines are out within a day or two.

i'm sure he knew...
But he probably got paid a ton to do it and probably considered the fine part of doing business.

I'm thinking he was paid well when he did it.
Then paid more for the fine. They knew he was going to be fined and their product is being talked up a lot more during the fining period then it was during the Superbowl. So I think the whole goal of this project was to get the fine and the large media exposure that came with the fine.

I'm going to go out and get me a bottle today and see if this drink will help with my driving to work today the way Urlacher says this drink helps him on the playing field.

Bears just cannot stay on the straight and narrow.
The fine recalls an episode involving Chicago quarterback Jim McMahon in the playoffs following the 1985 season, the previous time the Bears made the Super Bowl.

McMahon wore a headband that said "adidas" in a playoff game against the New York Giants, and then-commissioner Pete Rozelle fined him $5,000 because the shoe company was not an NFL sponsor. The following week, in the NFC title game against the Los Angeles Rams, McMahon wore a headband that read "rozelle."

endorsement default
Someone mentioned on Fark that the fine was steep since it potentially put the league in default of their 'exclusive' endorsement deal with Gatorade, and also that Urlacher's endorsement deal with vitaminwater probably had a bonus that would cover the fine.

Fine
I'd be willing to be that the vitamin water company will cover the fine. Not a big deal, but since there is nothing else to talk about till the draft this will do.
first the Rush...now the Bears.

Does this mean....
....that if Ray Lewis were to have gotten in his trouble with Goodell running the league that he would have never played again?
