WCG Mock Draft- Tennessee (#19)

19. Tennessee- Robert Meachem, WR,  Tennessee

Robert Meachem put up an outstanding junior campaign with 71 rec. for 1,298 yds. with 11 touchdowns. Although, he truly improved his draft stock by running a 4.39 40-time, despite being 6'2" and weighing 214 pounds. He has a great hands and a nice reach in traffic. His speed and size put him in an elite category. However, like many college receivers, he'll need to bulk up and toughen up to succeed in the next level. He seems to have more upside than the other receivers who are ranked near him. Every GM wants the next Steve Smith. Peronally, I seem to trust receivers more if they are not from large, dominant National Champion program. Those dominant programs have so many options that a defense cannot key on any one player, which often inflates certain players stats (ask any Detriot Fan about Mike Williams; that is if you want to get punched).

Tennessee sits in a unique situation with an outstanding, young, mobile quarterback in Vince Young. While a possession receiver, like Jarrett, would be helpful, Tennessee needs a deep threat. A team will need to respect Meachem's speed, and that will open up opportunities for Young. Other possible positions for Tennessee to draft in the first round would be defensive line.
