Around SBN: Steve McNair Found Shot to Death

San Francisco 49ers VS. Chicago Bears- Game Thread

The up and coming 49ers bring their 1-1 preseason record to Solider Field to take on the 2-0 defending NFC Champs.

Where- Soldier Field
When- 7PM CST

The replay is on NFLN I believe on Monday night, so hopefully South Side can catch this one live and give a recap.

Obviously, the most watched person here is going to be Rex Grossman.  I seriously doubt he will repeat the 3 fumble performance of last week.  Again, I would like to see him move this offense more than the preseason norm of 7 yard passes and quick dump offs to Cedric Benson.

Speaking of Benson, his pre season performance has been average.  He has shown to be a better receiving threat that normal, but his run performance has only be ok.

Tommie Harris will be a game time decision, but it would be nice to see him on the field again.

Grossman..
What does he have, all of 6 incomplete passes so far this preseason? I know it is a small sample size, but it is nice to see.

One thing i've noticed, we really need a homerun hitter at running back, i hope that is something Adrian Peterson can prove to be or else we may need to try to trade Alex Brown for a speed-type back, probably won't get a great one but at least someone who will give us a big play threat.

Small sample size or not...
Grossman is destroying them right now. 230 yards of offense vs. 28, and it's still pretty early in the second.

I was at the game last night
One or two series later Grossman almost threw the same pick, it would be nice if he would learn from his mistakes.

the defender
The defender was just sitting on that route on the second non-INT. I don't know if Rex didn't see the guy, but it looked as if the defender knew it was coming. He really needs to look off defenders on the short routes more.

Didn't get to see the game ...
but it appears that Rex had a very solid game (with the one pick and a fumble that he recovered), along with Berrian (79 yds receiving w/ a TD), and the D performed well.  Benson, OTOH, sounds anemic.  That doesn't bode well.

But otherwise some good stuff to take away from this game tonight.

I did just see the highlights on NFLN - anyone know if Hester is OK?  They said something about a tweaked shoulder.

I wouldn't ever go out to hurt anybody deliberately - unless it was, you know, important, like a league game or something. - Dick Butkus

benson
from listening on the radio it had sounded like he was running well when he had lanes, i know he was met in the backfield a couple times and had some tough goaline runs.

Sigh...
Grossman keeps showing those flashes, i'd just really like to see him eliminate the huge mistakes. It just seems that, while most guys will throw picks from time to time, Grossman always seems to throw the ones that get returned for TD's. Anyone read any quotes regarding yet another botched snap? That really needs to be worked out, there is no excuse for that happening 3 times in 2 games.

Grossman...
i'm not quite sure what it is about this guy that makes people want to give him slack. yeah he makes mistakes but don't think i didn't see the two tackles Urlacher(whom is one of my favorites) missed for a loss.not much will be said of that though. Grossman farts and people riddicule him. the fact of the matter is, he's the best qb chitown has had in quite some time. does he need to be Payton Manning? no. Is he better than Craig Kenzel um.. yeah. Chicago doesn't need a Manning. and Grossman is right neck and neck with Jim McMahon as far s stats go. Who also was not great but good. As far as the muffed snaps go does it happen more on running plays or passing plays? seems to me it happens more on running plays when Kreutz needs to get off the ball quicker. if you remember, he used to shake his left hand alot before a snap and now he can't.can it be he is moving the ball and going forward while Grossman is just wanting to take the snap and go back, instead of "riding the center" until he has the ball? to me it doesn't seem it happens when its a pass and Kreutz drops back to form a pocket. and as far as the int's go its gonna happen, all we need to worry about are td's and he's doing that real well. if he keeps getting harped on by the fans and the media we may never see his true potential until he's on another team.As amazing as Devin Hester was last year, he too fumbled returns. we are all human. let's rally behind the kid and see where he takes us.

the best qb chicago has had in a long time
this is exactly the problem many people had...is Grossman really a great QB or are we just being led to believe he is because we have lacked a good QB in so damn long? I, for one, like Grossman, i think he will be a good QB and i really like his attitude and i think if anyone can survive the scrutiny in Chicago it will be him. On the other hand, i understand the fans who are calling for his head because they feel we have been constantly shortchanged by the franchise. It is kind of a double-edged sword, if that makes any sense.
