Bears Fumble And Bumble The Chargers to Victory
The Bears start off the season somewhere they shouldn't be, the basement of the NFC North. Now I am not worried about the Bears they will still win this division, but I am fuming after this game. The Bears D played like they were possessed and everybody else just kept putting them back on the field.
I am quite upset at a number of people, but one of them isn't Rex Grossman and I guess that is a good thing.
- Why the hell is Devin Hester fair catching punts when nobody is within 10 yards of him?
- When nothing was working for the offense, why did we not try something from that Devin Hester package we keep hearing about?
- Why is it every time it looked like Grossman was getting into a groove, we followed it up with a string of running plays?
I think OC Ron Turner takes a bit of blame here, some of his play calling was horrible.
Again, not worried this D is going to wreak havoc, but the coaches and players on this offense had best figure out what is exactly they are trying to do.
We'll take a more detailed look at the numbers and how everybody did tomorrow.

My thoughts.....
- First off, I'm not worried about this season. This loss shouldn't hurt to much.
- Had they not fumbled on those two run plays, the game would be completley different. You've got to hold onto the ball.
- The defnese looked better than I had even expected. LT for the most part was shut down, and they looked great all around.
- McBride needs to figure it out. That fumble on the punt return killed us, and lost all the momentum that we had.
- If our offense can improve, and they will against other defenses, we should be really hard to beat.
- Berrian looked good, and made some nice catches.

What do you mean by...
The only "fumble" on a punt return i remember is one that bounced off McGowans shoulder, did i miss something else cause i did dose off for a bit.

Disagree.
That's the play that cost us the game, as it gave them the TD and all the mo'.

@E Rock
Here is one thing we can at least say about Grossman, rarely is he ever sulking on the sideline after he turns the ball over, at least he is over there and feeling the itch to TRY to make up for it.

2nd and 1 ... run up the gut
4rth and 2? John Shoop gets his revenge.
The Bears D played well all day, really. Only giving up 14 points, 6 of them on a sort-of trick play, and dominating the first half. Would have dominated the 2nd had the offense given them a breather.
Turnovers sucked. Hester's fair catches were indeed annoying as well. We're going to have to get some mojo going on offense next week - but I think the defense is looking good, unless Brown is hurt and out for more than just the 2nd half of this first game. That would not be good.

Hester seemed to be a little cautious, but not overly so. I was impressed that he made smart decisions instead of trying to force things.
I don't recall any fair catches that were obvious that he should have tried to return them.

And oh yea...
I though it may have been Shoop calling the plays. Very, very conservative.
Only one ball thrown deep all game? Rex's biggest strength is throwing the deep ball, and Berrian's (and Bradley's - did he even see the field?) biggest strength is catching the deep ball.
At least try it.
And the offensive line, especially on the run, was pretty awful. You can't expect much from Benson when he continually gets hit behind the line of scrimmage.

Does anybody see
But -- they needed a vet behind Benson, not another semi-experienced back. This tandem might not be up to the challenge.

running game...
once again (i keep saying this), you can't expect much when you running backs get hit behind the line of scrimmage. the offensive line created VERY FEW holes today. that is probably due, in part, to the fact that the charger's defense is really good. part this was a struggle in pre-season games, and now it continues to be a struggle in the regular season.

He actually broke down and started crying.

Is anyone really suprised?
Did they ever get him to restructure his contract over the offseason, i know they had talked about it but i was never sure if it happened.

from PFT...
Officially, Bears safety Mike Brown has a knee sprain. Unofficially, it might be worse than that.
After Sunday's loss to the Chargers, Brown broke down while talking to reporters about the injury.
"It's another sad day in the chapter of my football-playing career," Brown said. "I don't know what else to tell you guys."
As the Chicago Tribune points out, the Bears called quarterback Rex Grossman's 2004 ACL tear a knee sprain, too.
Brown previously suffered season-ending injuries in 2004 and 2006.
UPDATE: We're hearing rumblings that Brown has a torn ACL. We're also hearing that Bears defensive tackle Dusty Dvoracek has suffered a knee injury.
sonofabitch.

everything is a knee sprain at first.

Meh
Berrian's boner, 2 fumbles, forgetting to block people. Ugly day for the offense.

I don't know if it's the same guys....
The whole whole offense was, at best, below adequate. The O-line got dominated. The running backs didn't have any time, but also gave up two fumbles and didn't "create on their own". Grossman wasn't horrible (which seems acceptable to you guys), but he certainly wasn't any good either.
I've suddenly jumped off the offensive bandwagon.

During the offseason...
Also, Mark Bradley did not enter the game once. Davis seemed to be on the field only a few times.
I'm just generally confused at our play calling. I'm sick of seeing 2 WRs, 1 TE, 1 FB, and Benson. This is why I was excited about the prospect of Hester and a healthy Mark Bradley. If Bradley isn't healthy, then fucking suit up Hass.
If you don't put "the talent" on the field and call three straight running plays after moving the ball 30+ yards on 3 consecutive pass plays, how can you expect a QB to do anything useful?
I'm continually underwhelmed by Rashied Davis.
