Around SBN: Steve McNair Found Shot to Death

Did Bears Miss Out On Laron Landry?

Ok, this isn't really about Landry, but follow me and you'll see where I'm going with this.

If you buy into this article, the Washington Redskins will pursue Lance Briggs heavily this off season.

If you recall last off season, the Bears and the Redskins were talking about a trade that would send Briggs to Washington for the #6 pick.  They had even worked out a contract for Briggs.  I am not positive, but I believe the hang up up was an additional player the Bears wanted that the Skins would not give up(Rocky McIntosh?).

Instead the Bears struck a deal where Briggs would play for us this year and the Bears would not franchise him the following year.

While hindsight is 20/20, signs were here that Briggs might not be back.  He says he loves Chicago, but he has also stated he wants to be the man and cannot do that with Urlacher in town.  He also wants money that the Bears don't typically pay.  On the other side Dan Snyder regularly dishes out huge contracts to players.  That isn't going to change.

Should the Bears have taken the deal?

The only semi-reasonable thing aside from working out a deal that I can think Angelo was banking on was to keep Briggs around for what many though would be a return to the Super Bowl and then let him go this year.

The #6 pick turned into LaRon Landry.

I'll tell you the worst part
is that the Bears didn't trade Briggs only cause they thought they had a shot at going back to the the Super Bowl.  Otherwise, they would have.  Blargh!

Bingo
They thought they would be going to the show again.  I bet Angelo is really kicking himself in the ass on that one.  At the time though, I didn't want to do the trade if we had to give up Briggs and #31 for #6.  If Rocky would've been involved, they would have pulled the trigger.  Landry is a punk anyway though.  I live in the DC area and see all the games and he's a punk.

Landry
seems like a heckuva player but definitely a "punk". He's taken some real cheap shots at guys this year.

That's the last thing ya want. /sarcasm
Don't get me wrong, I hate the Rodney Harrison's of the world, but if the Bears had drafted him, I'd be glad he's here and not give a damn.

I'd rather have a guy who takes cheap shots (since shit's done under piles all the time, anyway) than a wife-beater "nice guy".

anyone else
recall a former skins' safety who fit the exact same mold as landry and was turning into something entirely different this season?

He's a hitter
He's a hell of a hitter.  He's just like Roy Williams and Sean Taylor.  Lowsy in coverage but will knock the shit out of you.  He is always out of postition and kills the team with his personal fouls.  He's a mirror image of Sean Taylor in that regard.  He goes for the hit over the wrap up tackle.  We definitely don't need that type of safety.

ha
yeah, my brother and I were talking about that leading up to the draft and I was all for it, at the time I was pissed off at briggs for wanting so much money, but now I think we should sign some lineman rex and barrian, let go of moose, draft some insurance at saftey and find a cheap back to motivate bensen and then whats left throw it at briggs, it probably wont be enough, which means briggs is gone :: tear::

Hindsight is in fact 20/20
Interesting thought for sure, but had we pulled the trigger on that you know all of us would have been bitching right now about how letting Lance go was a mistake and probably a reason for the shitty season we still would have had without him (just like we did with him).

20/20 for sure
I didn't want them to move Lance.  I was thrilled when the franchised him.  I thought, like the Bears, that the Bears could compete for the Super Bowl again.  I was saying that IF WE KNEW THEN...

I was also saying that instead of coming off a Super Bowl run where the Bears were clearly the best team in the NFC, they were 8-8 and treading water, they would have moved him.
