Brandon Lloyd, A Possible Bears Target?

What's this?  Is this a legitimate Bears rumor.  Has the Bears been attached to a free agent?  It seems so, though not because of some source, just a case of connections.

Today the Redskins released WR Brandon Lloyd.  Rotoworld is guessing that a possible destination is Chicago where Ron Turner was Lloyd's college coach.

I'd say no for three reasons.

  1. Just because you coached a guy in college doesn't mean he wants to come to a place where we certainly are not going overpay for him and have a questionable QB situation.
  2.  Ron Turner has no room to leverage a guy.  He is just barely holding onto his job.  He needs to keep his nose clean and have a good year.
  3. In the same article that you speculate the Bears you say the Skins gave up two mid round picks and overpaid him and he didn't deliver.  How come we have to get the guy nobody wants?
Anybody think he is worth it?

I just posted on the diary about Lloyd, then I read what the redskins blog, hoghaven, had to say and now I dont know. I went to illinois so I am partial to him but they pose a good argument for his dismissal. So now I dont know what to think.

Let me just say...
I was down on Adam Archuleta, but at least felt it was possible that his failure was a result of mismanagement by the Redskins.

Regarding Brandon Lloyd, he is not merely a totally inadequate wide receiver. He is a trouble maker and a parasite on the team with an attitude problem. He has been called uncoachable by teammates, has yet to catch 50% of the passes thrown his way in a single season, and has done absolutely nothing thus far in his career to warrant anything but an opportunity to make the roster at vet league minimum.

He quickly plummeted to the 4th or 5th option in our receiving unit, and remained there in large part only because of his salary. I would strongly suggest fans turn against this guy, as he's nothing but trouble.

Hey with the way we turned around Adam Archuleta
career I don't see why we can do the same thing with Lloyd:)

I just posted in the diary...
http://www.boston.com/sports/football/patriots/articles/2008/02/26/for_wilson_its_time_to_cover_a_di fferent_route/

let's get Brandon Llyod and Eugene Wilson.  Then draft Rasard Mendenhall and get as many Illini as possible.

kidding about an illini reunion
but i wouldn't be against getting any or all of those guys.

But I do think Wilson would be a good pick up.

is wilson gonna be the best safety available?
up to the past 2 seasons, i'd say it'd be a no brainer to get him. but he's been injured a bit and was pretty low on the pats safety depth chart last year. again, mostly injury-related, but that sounds a lot like a guy we have at safety right now, too. if he'd take an incentive-based deal, sure. but truthfully, signing him is useless unless he can stay on the field.

i don't like our depth
at safety.

I would love it if the Bears would draft Mendenhal
I just don't think that they would commit all that money into the running back position because of all the money they have tied up with our team parasite Benson.

what about...
Bryant Johnson. I think he would be a great possession receiver and could really compliment a youthful speedy receiver, which this draft is loaded with.

WRs
I realize most of you are joking, but for those who aren't: there's a reason why the Illini are a college team and not a pro team.

As far as Brandon Lloyd goes, I say we pass for all the reasons HogHaven mentioned. I fully support Bryant Johnson. If we somehow brought Berrian back with Bryant Johnson, I think they'd allow Hester to work his magic as the 3rd receiver and make a very solid and young receiving corps.

Wha?
" there's a reason why the Illini are a college team and not a pro team."

C'mon.  You cannot really think that do you?  No one here would advocate filling our a roster of Illini players in the pros.  BUT!

  1.  I like seeing Illini players on the Bears - not that common but nice.  While this spans a 100 years, both Red Grange and Dick Butkus did alright.
  2. I wouldn't advocate trying to fill out a roster from any college.  This includes USC, LSU or OSU
  3. It just so happens that I think Brandon Lloyd, Eugene Wilson and Rashard Mendenhall would all fit nicely on the Bears.

Arch for O
That just what we need... an Archuleta for the Offense.

Lloyd's career
has been as successful as the sales of his rap album.  The Bears shouldn't even consider this guy.  I'm all for bringing in Bryant Johnson, too. If Bradley can actually stay healthy, Hester can learn his routes, Hass can step up to contribute, and we sign Johnson, I think we'll be in decent shape.  As decent as we can be if we lose Berrian.  We're not going to be able to bring in a top-flight receiver in this season regardless.  If we can upgrade the o-line and give Orton/Grossman time, that corps could definitely find some success.

Screw Berrian!
Get Lloyd. Who cares if he sucks? At least he doesn't want more money than he's worth. Keep those boys in their place.

Seriously, if the Bears lose Berrian, they can forget having a passing game next year. If they don't have a passing game, anyone think they'll have the rest of the offense?
