WCG Mock Draft- NY Jets

CURRENT SELECTION
Darren McFadden
Running Back
Arkansas
ANALYSIS: know it seems like Oakland was in place to take McFadden with the recent defensive pickups. But I feel they think too highly on Fargas, Bush and Jordan and will choose a different route.

With that being said, it just seems too right for the Jets to make this move. The Jets lack in offensive and defensive talent for the most part and with the departure of Jonathan Vilma some might say they will go defense. But just like the Vikings last year, a running back with these kind of skills is just too good to pass up. With the signings of Alan Faneca, Bubba Franks, and Damien Woody, it just seems like they are setting up to go down the running back route for the offense, since the whole passing game seems to be falling apart. Laveranues Coles is demanding more money rather than more talent and they seem to have a familiar situation at QB as the Bears do, they don't know if Pennington will hold up and the verdict is still out for Clemens They have former Bear Thomas Jones, but he seemed to not live up to anything last season and he isn't getting any younger, but he would be great to have in a 1-2 punch and perfect for keeping Darren under his wing and showing him the ways to become and NFL elite.

If that wasn't enough, they have recently visited w/ DMC for the second time this week, just to show how interested they actually are. They have addressed some Defensive needs with Calvin Pace and Kris Jenkins, but now its time for the offense to get a little makeover. Darren McFadden will be a running back that will allow New York to compete with the Pats and help build the competition of the AFC East. Don't be suprised nor think I'm crazy if I say that they will compete for the Division Title this season.

Jets
If the draft falls like this, the Jets just made out.  With the offensive line they are constructing, McFadden will be a monster.  The Jets have many needs but you can't pass him up at #6.
GO BEARS!!!!!

Huh?
They're constructing an offensive line? Sorry, I'm a Bears fan, I don't comprehend what you're talking about.

What?
"leave to the Bears to leave an open gap for a joke like that"

nothing related to the chicago bears has any idea of what an open gap looks like.  haven't seen one in ages.

indeed
they will be good if this is the case, and who knows maybe he would help out with the passing game.

Thomas Jones, the mentor
[Thomas Jones] would be great to have in a 1-2 punch and perfect for keeping Darren under his wing and showing him the ways to become and NFL elite.

Yeah, TJ did such an awesome job as a mentor to Benson

really
your gonna blame Benson's laziness and lack of effort and heart on T-Jones?, com'on open your eyes.

by DaNate23 on Mar 27, 2008 10:25 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

No...
... but I blame Jone's attitude and bitterness because another back was brought it.

I also think it is silly to call Benson lazy or that he lacks effort or heart.

I was the
biggest supporter of him this year, but he showed nothing, even in the SuperBowl he got an injury, as did old man Marvin Harrison and guess who came back out to give their best effort or at least attempted to...theres a reason we're looking for a new running back already.

by DaNate23 on Mar 27, 2008 11:52 AM CDT   0 recs

i agree
i feel like he had a lot of potential, but he never gave it his all. i was really hoping he would prove all of us wrong, but it never happened. now, he's got a metal plate in his let.

let's all hope that next year begins the mendenhall era in chicago!

I am like your Dan Aykroyd and biglow would be Jane, the ignorant slut. -Chad

benson vs. harrison
guess who came back out to give their best effort or at least attempted to
Right... because all injuries are the same, right?
theres a reason we're looking for a new running back already.
Well... it could have something to do with the fact that Benson has a plate in his leg and no one really knows how he will be able to return.

by big_lowitzki on Mar 27, 2008 12:16 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

obviously
that injury that happened at the end of the season accounts for the poor play through the whole first part, good try tho, defending Benson and all, but this is one argument that you can't defend. Just bite the bullet and realize the fact that he is a BUST.

by DaNate23 on Mar 27, 2008 12:46 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

actually...
Benson starting playing pretty well right before the injury.

Don't get me wrong - I was disappointed with Benson last year, but I was more disappointed with the overall running game, and more specifically, the awful play by the offensive line.

A different style of RB may have been able to do more, but Benson is not the type of RB that will be able to do much when he gets hit behind the line of scrimmage so often.

by big_lowitzki on Mar 27, 2008 3:29 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I'll
wait and see what a fixed up line does for him, but I will say he was avg 4.1 yds a carry the year we went to the superbowl, compared to about 3.4 last year. But with the injury and all, who knows what will happen, I will say we at least need another RB just to get competition to where if he is healthy he will be pushed to work harder.
