WCG Mock Draft- Baltimore Ravens

CURRENT SELECTION
Leodis McKelvin
Corner Back
Troy
ANALYSIS: On offense, um, the Patriots had the best offense ever and return pretty much everyone. Unless McFadden or Long falls here, they’ll stay away from this side of the ball.

On defense, they similarly have about a zillion Pro Bowlers but have a few more holes. Their defensive line starters (w/ three guys) are still fairly young w/ Wilfork (26), Warren (27) and Seymour (28) all returning. At linebacker, they were still one of the best but a lot older in football years: Vrabel (32), Bruschi (34) and Thomas (30). Roosevelt Colvin (30) was released and Junior Seau (39) had surgery, and no one knows if he’ll come back. If Vernon Gholston is available at the No. 7 spot, I think the Patriots will take the "best athlete available" and grab him. He’s not on WCG, though, and probably won’t be for real.

So that leaves the defensive backfield. Asante Samuel (Philadelphia), Randall Gay (New Orleans) and Eugene Wilson (Tampa Bay) are all gone via free agency, and at 35 Rodney Harrison’s injuries are a constant threat. That leaves Harrison, James Sanders, Ellis Hobbs and last year’s first round pick Brandon Merriweather as the returning backfield. I think they need someone. In my opinion, there are really only two choices here, both of which have been rising up the boards fast: Leodis McKelvin and Dominque Rodgers-Cromartie.

I think they’ll go with McKelvin. With one timed speed in the forty at 4.38, he had one of the faster times which means he’ll be able to keep up with the NFL WR’s. He’s also known as a gambler for the ball, which is supposedly something the Patriots like. To add to that, if he can’t come in and start right away, he’s also a top-notch return man. With his forty time and 17 reps at the bench press, McKelvin is a great athlete. He also has a confident attitude with a strong work ethic. He has good natural instincts for the position, but needs to learn the finer technical points of playing the position. The Patriots rarely seem to miss with these guys.
