SBN Mock Draft - Round 2

So after our Draft guy and I came to an agreement to disagree with my first round selection of Rashard Mendenhall, we shook hands and decided to agree on the second round selection.

With the 44th pick, the Chicago Bears selected Anthony Collins, Offensive Tackle, Kansas.

The pick netted us an A.  This was a pretty obvious pick, though I did look elsewhere.  I considered only for a brief second Chad Henne, but the chance that he plays this year is slim to none.  Collins on the other hand gives us immediate depth and is only an injury or poor play away from being a key ingredient.

I heavily considered Chilo Rachal, the offensive guard out of USC.  He has played bigger and better opponents and has a nasty attitude, but he could be around at our first #3 pick, so this would be a reach.

What's your take?

Brohm, Flacco both gone?
Meh? Mendenhall still only gets 3.2 ypc next year.

Hey tyger1147...
Are you Jay Mariotti by any chance?
You know what, I think you are!
That explains everything!
The rants, the raves, the pessimism!
Hey WGC, Jay Mariotti has invaded the blog!

I actually agree with Tyger on this
If you really think that Mendenhall is going to come in and fix our running game, than great.  But like Tyger, I tend to think that no matter what running back (aside from Barry or Walter) you have in the backfield, they are only as good as their offensive line.  And in the Bears case, our running game will suck because we have no run blocking.
GO BEARS!!!!!

Wow.
That's some real insight. I'd be as optimistic as anyone if this team were any good or had done anything this off-season.

Off-load crappy contracts? Check.
Don't offer any big contracts? Check.
Bring in solid contributors for low cost? Check.
Bring in high-risk players for next to nothing? Check.
Base whole off-season plan on the draft? Check.

Now you tell me how this doesn't scream rebuilding year. You tell me how a line of Josh Beekman, Anthony Collins, Terrance Metcalf, Roberta Garza, Olin Kreutz and John Tait does ANYTHING next year.

You can't unless you're deluded and/or lying. You might call it being pessimistic, I call it being realistic. You probably think the White Sox will win 100 games, this year, too, huh?

In all honesty, I couldn't be happier they're rebuilding. I've been saying that since Week 10. I was originally upset because the Bears were talking  about going for it all next year, but actions speak louder than words. In the NFL, with ten (10!) draft picks, rebuilding can happen in only one or two years.

I understand, though, that you can't think anything other than what the organization tells you to think, so I forgive the insult of calling me Mariotti.

Fine by Me
Gets a solid O-lineman so our biggest priorities are done with our first two picks. I like. Now onto QB and WR in round 3 and we are jet set.

I suspect
Henne will be off the board before our first #3, so be default we wouldn't address QB until later.  Given the Bears board that somebody posted the next possible target is Paul Smith(I think I got that name right) out of Tulsa.

Let's just
tank the entire season so we can get Tim Tebow next year.

no
Tom Brady was drafted in the 6th round!! So if you draft a late round quarterback he'll probably be as good as Brady. Its like guaranteed man.

Rachal or Nicks or Henne
are all rated higher on my draft board. I believe Collins came out as a JR, so there is big upside with him(as well as Rachal). But maybe you can get a decent OG with the #90 pick; look for  Schuening-OG, McGlynn-OG/OT, Greco-OT/OG, or Zuttah-OG/OT. With #70 I would go with Nelson-WR, Caldwell-WR, Cousins-OG, Brown-OT, Royal-WR, Bennett-WR. And pick up a QB in Round4, Booty or Johnson.

i might try this
optimism over realism thing, that way I don't have to pay attention or even be remotely informed, i'm just gonna call whatever i see a winner.

"something similiar to this happened and it led to a result I deem acceptable so obviously i should be happy for this because it will happen again!"
