WCG Mock Draft- Carolina Panthers

CURRENT SELECTION
Jeff Otah

Offensive Tackle
Pittsburgh
ANALYSIS: I was originally going to go running back, but DeAngelo Williams is only 3 years deep in the league and has time for improvement. With that being said, Jeff Otah is what the Carolina Panthers need for their offense, he's the tackle that they've needed for a few years now. He's a senior from Pitt and has the experience to be a first years starter for this franchise. He's 6-6 322lbs, which means he's a big man with strength, power and size. It is also to be noted that he's got some long arms, which is great for any big offensive line player. He's versatile and still has time to improve even more as a player as his career goes on. This is a great pick up for the Panthers and I'm suprised no other teams went after him at this point.

They will need a good, fresh lineman to protect Delhomme and open up holes for Williams. They'll be able to get away with this pick because they had the chance to improve other positions in the free agency, so now they can draft a tackle. They have gotten Muhammed back on the team who is still familiar with Steve Smith and Jake Delhomme, seems nothing has really changed since he left anyways. They also picked up DJ Hackett to add to their already huge depth at receiver (they have 10 as of now) and have went free agent crazy picking up linebacker Landon Johnson, guard Milford Brown, safety Terrence Holt, guard Keydrick Vincent, and defensive end Tyler Branton. So dont be suprised if they don't help themselves out at tackle since there isnt too much in the draft at this point to help their other need, defensive tackle.

I'm a little surprised with this one
I thought Chris Williams would go before Otah, though I have seen Otah on some mocks go way high.

I am going to wait until I have the Bears pick in hand, but this draft pretty much is dictating the direction we should go.

Yeah
I think the general consensus is that Otah is #4 in the top 4 group of o-linemen.  I personally like Williams much better than Otah.  But you never know.

An offensive tackle?
One could argue that is the area of least need for the Panthers. They just resigned Travelle Wharton to a long deal, and tagged Jordan Gross with the intention of reupping him as well. You could argue that they are going to let Gross go after this year because they don't want to spend that much mine on the line, but then why would they spend a first on another tackle?

And since when have the Panthers needed a tackle for a few years?

Did you just pick this out of a hat?

seriously you need to chill out
you keep going on boards and indicting other peoples opinions, jeff otah is huge, that is reason enough for him to go higher than chris williams.

Oh and please dont insult people's grammar and spelling  and call them ignorant, if you are gonna do the same thing. "mine"

Did
you read what I wrote? My criticism is not of Otah before Williams, it's that the Panthers need an OT less than just about any team in the league.

Everyone makes an occaisional typo. I criticised when someone had about 6 grammar errors in a 3 sentence period.

I'm pretty sure
The Gross didn't sign long term.  They could be looking for his replacement.

seriously
you need to stop critisizing, he goes before williams on alot of mock drafts and u go on their roster and tell me what they need more than a tackle?

Again,
the criticism is not that Atoah went before Williams, it's that OT is not a need for the Panthers, at least not until late in the draft for depth.

Of the top of my head, I would say QB (since Delhomme has struggled and been hurt, and Matt Moore didn't look good), WR (since they've gotten nothing out of Jarrett so far and Moose is not good), DT (they lost Jenkins), DE (to play across from Peppers) are all FAR greater needs than OT for them. They have two very good offensive tackles, why would they draft another in the first round? That would be like the Bears taking a TE in the first round.

You can be upset at me if you want for pointing it out, but the fact is you didn't look at what the team needed when you made the pick. It's like you looked at it like "who would the Bears take if they picked here?" There is no point in doing a mock draft like this if people don't take a few minutes to look at what the team they are drafting for might need. Otherwise you might as well just do the draft alphabetically, it would be just as randomly inaccurate as picks like this.
