The Big 12 Conference has named 28 student-athletes to the 2009 Academic All-Big 12 Men's Basketball Team, the league office announced. Two Texas Tech players have earned high academic honors.
Senior Esmir Rizvic was named to the first team and sophomore Mike Singletary earned second team honors.
Esmir, the Zenica, Bosnia native, entered Texas Tech after playing two seasons at Gulf Coast Community College where he averaged 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Commodores. He has played in 54 games and has started 20 games as a Red Raider.
Esmir, a member of the Bosnian National Team, will graduate in May with his degree in University Studies. He will return home after graduation and is planning to play professionally in Europe.
Mike, an Arts and Sciences major, is completing his second season at Texas Tech after graduating from Kingwood High School in Humble, Texas. He has played in 30 games this season and is averaging 11 points per game.
