Willie Anderson available
The Bengals released perennial pro bowl offensive tackle Willie Anderson today. Even though he isn't much of an improvement in making the Bears o-line any younger, he would make them considerably better until Chris Williams can return and contribute. Anderson has been to the Pro Bowl every year since 2003 and should seriously be considered by the Bears.
I like the thought of Chris Simms too, but it doesn't matter if the Bears have the best QB in the league, if the Bears can't run the ball and if the QB doesn't have the time to throw the football then the offense won't produce anything.

Fans who attended night practice...
'"Grossman connected with tight end Fontel Mines on a deep seam route and threw a strike on a deep out that was dropped by Brandon Rideau. But the former Florida star was booed by many in the crowd of 24,977 following most of his incompletions... In fairness to Grossman, he often had little time to throw while working behind the second team offensive line. On one occasion, he avoided a sack by heaving the ball into the stands." - Larry Mayer (www.chicagobears.com)
Are you serious? You do understand Practice is where a team goes to get better and get into rhythm. How can you boo your own team's players at a practice? I don't care if he fumbled every snap. Grossman is not my favorite quarterback in the league, maybe not even on this team, but when the guy is working on getting better the last thing he should have is Bear's fans booing him. Maybe it's just me, but I don't boo a player on a team I'm a fan of because he is having a bad game/night. I'll boo him if his name is Cedric Benson and I know the guy just doesn't want to work. If you do feel like bashing your own players then do it (It will REALLY help them play better), just don't cheer for them the next time they have a good play, because then you just look like Giants & Jets fans.

Possession Receiver
I know the talk of the time is in the draft right now, but I think the Bears should look at Bryant Johnson for a good possession receiver. I am not sure of his status with Arizona, but I know he planned to be an UFA in '08. I think he has the potential and tools to be a good replacement for Moose. I don't think he has really gotten the opportunity to do anything being behind Boldin & Fitzgerald. Yet, he has good size and is known for having good hands and running good routes.

Mariotti on Rex
I'll start by saying I am Rex supporter. I support almost any QB the Bears choose to start. I do think Rex has serious potential, but is being crippled by our offensive system.
With that being said. I don't totally agree with everything in this article, but I did find one quote to be hilarious.
Jay Mariotti's opinion on how the Bears should not stick with Rex...
"Know what this is? It's your ex-girlfriend making a booty call late at night. Do not answer it, or you will regret it."

Perhaps Rex & Griese aren't the only problem.
Please bare with me on this one. I have the urge to vent like everyone else. I just can't stand this type of offensive playing any longer. I see Lovie has made it a point to get Olsen & Hester in the offense, like I will be saying I trust Lovie.
I am no diehard Rex or Griese supporter; I just don't think they are the Only ones to blame right now.
Don't get me wrong, neither of them are playing at a Pro Bowl level. But my first point is this...When did Rex Grossman play his best last year?
I'd say it was when Rex was being Rex. It was when he was gun slinging, being erratic, and having the high risk, high reward mentality. He certainly had a couple games where it wasn't working out for him, but to have more games with a passer rating over 100 in the season than the likes of Tom Brady and Carson Palmer is pretty darn good.
All those games where Rex played poorly were not just because he stood up and threw to the other team. Good coverage, good pressure, good defense all led Rex to attempt to make something out of nothing, which then usually led to a turnover. Any coach will tell you the easiest team to defend, is the team that is the easiest to predict. Well, look no further than the Chicago Bears.
Last year the opposing defense would give a huge cushion in defense of Rex's ability to launch the ball to speedy Berrian. This would open up the middle for Moose & Clark. This season nobody was (is) scared of the deep ball, expect Rex (& everyone else who roots for the Bears). Rex's ability has been caged by the scrutiny he has received (McNabb ain't got nothing on Rex in That Department) and the ultra-conservative play calling of Ron Turner.
As I mentioned before: High Risk = High Reward. You may not like the idea of that, due to the fact it may lead to the occasional INT, but it also led to the occasional TD. Which we haven't seen very many of this season when Rex played (except to an Offensive Tackle from the 2 yard line).
I respect the fact some people may not agree with that concept of play calling. Letting Rex wing it to get 3 TDs even if he gives up 3 INTs. Your right, it may be a little extreme, ok that's fine. Let's go a more conservative game plan and let's assume we have an average QB, like a Brian Griese. Griese doesn't have a super strong arm, but is known to be fairly accurate and good decision maker. So let's get a little wild now... Ron Turner style.
Let's put in one of the most explosive players in the NFL on the field and throw him a screen. Good call! No one will see that coming! Hester gets 3 yards because he is keyed by 3 guys, and we don't see him again on offense. Ugh.
Next idea, our North/South running game isn't working to well (maybe because our overrated, #4 pick aims for his blockers backs... Curtis Enis? Not Again!). Let's put speedy, elusive 5'7'' rookie running back Garrett Wolfe in the game. Yea! Nobody will notice this substitution. No luck on three attempts? Scratch that plan. Bah!
Now lets throw and keeping throwing, 52 times to be exact. Peyton Manning thinks that is a lot (he threw 27 times on Sunday). Oh yea... while not using rookie stud Greg Olsen or former #2 receiver Mark Bradley (who apparently pulled a Trent Green and lost his job due to injury). $%!#!
Have Grossman & Griese thrown some poor passes. Yes. Have our receivers dropped some easy catches, some that could have been TDs? Yep. Do I feel confident with either of them on a game winning drive? Yes. What?! Yep. But I am not confident in the play calling/offensive coaching that will happen during that drive.
Hey Ron, stop sucking like your bro Norv. The Bear's D will hold their own. They are solid and have depth, and at this point I trust Lovie and Babich.
If the opposing team's D is getting a lot of pressure because your o-line is getting a tad ancient? Move your QB back to a shotgun to get a better site adjustment. Not to mention, better positioning for a quicker release on short routes (Which you all love SO much.) Most all other teams have already figured this out.
Running game stalling? How about you give us a different look instead of your standard stretch play on first down and third and long? Like a counter or some misdirection using your new tailback. Or maybe don't make your run plays so darn predictable. First down? Run? No way!
Receivers not getting open? It's called a variation to the pass. It does work. Oh yea, and if they running game isn't working the play action pass won't fool anyone. Oh yea, and will you use your weapons! I don't know how... that is why you coaches are get paid the big bucks to COACH OFFENSE! But, I will tell you the players you are not using correctly to your benefit. Greg Olsen, Garrett Wolfe, Mark Bradley, and um... DEVIN HESTER.
When the team win it's the players, when the team loses it's the coaches. Well whatever, I'm calling this one like I see it.
