Benson and Jones- Head to Head

New, comments

There is only one thing I can tell you for sure and that is I have not idea who is going to be the Bears starting running back at the beginning of the regular season.  I have guesses and know who I hope it is, but I would not be willing to put money on them.  Both Benson and Jones are back at practice and taking part to different degrees.  Jones is back in pads playing at full speed, while Benson fresh off of a shoulder injury is doing conditioning.

I think this is going to come down to whoever makes it there first.  There are only two exhibition games left for Coach to decide his starter.  Thomas Jones is expected to play this week's game against the Cardinals, Benson is not.  Generally speaking, most of the starters sit for a majority of the 4th game, so if Benson is back he won't have much time with the 1st string if any.

Much has been said about Benson not being liked by coaches and staff.  Given his hold out last year and his actions of late, it isn't hard to see why.

Benson is not without his supporters.  Nathan Vashar has come out in support of Benson and while not an open nod in his direction C Olin Kruetz said it doesn't matter to him and he didn't even know he was gone, so it didn't affect anybody.

For the record, my vote is for Jones.
