The Arizona Cardinals have announced their initial list of candidates for the head coaching job. Among then is defensive coordinator Ron Rivera. Now I certainly don't fault the guy if he goes for it, he certainly deserves it; though, it would probably be a smart idea to put another year or two in as a DC, but whatever.
The only thing I have to say to Rivera is PLEASE, PLEASE don't take the Arizona job. Wait, some other team will come calling. I do not want to see your first coaching gig go down in flames. Nobody can succeed in the AZ.
Other coaches on the list are Titans offensive coordinator Norm Chow, Texans assistant head coach Mike Sherman, Steelers offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt, Steelers offensive line coach Russ Grimm, and Colts assistant head coach/quarterbacks coach Jim Caldwell.
Atlanta is also expected to ask permission to talk to Rivera.
Per league rules, you can only talk to coaches who are in the playoffs the week before their first game. With the Bears having a first round bye, he is free to interview with as many teams as he wants that entire week.
UPADTE: I have just been reading that Atlanta is also interested in talking with San Francisco assistant head coach Mike Singletary.
