I am sure many of you are waking up and rushing over to get your fix of Chicago Bears news. Unfortunately, when you will read this you might yawn and get back in bed. Coming as a surprise to absolutely no one, the Bears have named linebackers coach Bob Babich there new defensive coordinator.
Smith and Babich have a long history together from their time in St. Louis all the way back to some time at Tulsa. Smith probably wanted Babich all along, but needed to see if he thought he could do the job. That probably had as much to do with Rivera's leaving as anything.
As you might remember the Buffalo Bills asked for permission to talk to Babich last year for their defensive coordinator job, the Bears hiked up his salary and added assistant head coach to his title to keep him in town.
