WCG Mock Draft- Baltimore (#29)

#29 - Baltimore - Justin Blalock, RT, Texas

The Baltimore Ravens are getting older, especially on defense. Adalius Thomas left town to play for the Patriots, Ray Lewis is 32, and Samari Rolle will be 31 by the start of the regular season. Now is as good a time as any to draft and develop their replacements. However, with how the draft has played out so far, the best players to fill their needs at LB and CB on defense have been picked. So, in order to get the best value with their low pick, the Ravens will shift to their largest need on the other side of the ball: offensive line. Losing Tony Pashos to free agency, and the possibility of Jonathan Ogden retiring creates an urgent need in the trenches, which Justin Blalock can fill.

Blalock is adequately sized at 6'4", 329 lbs with quick feet and good balance. He is a very good run-blocker who will help open large holes in defensive lines for the Ravens new RB, Willis McGahee. He  is a 3-time All-Big 12 Conference selection who won the Big 12 Offensive Lineman of the Year award and was selected as an All-American in his senior year. The Texas offense was ranked in the top-ten in scoring and rushing 3 of the 4 years he started at RT. He blocked for Cedric Benson in 2004 when the Longhorns totaled the third most rushing yards in school history at 3,590 yds.
