WCG Mock Draft- Jacksonville (#17)

17. Jacksonville - Reggie Nelson, RB, University of Florida

It's rare in drafts where the best player available and need coincide without trading or reaching.  Unlike previous years where the Jags have streached a bit for needs, this choice gives the optimal balance of need and value.

The Jags lost Deon Grant to Free Agency (Thanks Seattle) and Donovan Darius, despite his talent, is aging and injury prone.  They need help in the secondary and Nelson is the perfect mix of ball hawk and tackler.  Most important to Jacksonville is his sideline-to-sideline ability which has lacked with Deon Grant.

The only downside with Reggie is that he's not a run-stopper.  But for Jacksonville that's OK, because with Nelson covering the pass, Donovan can do what he does best and that's knocking the snot out of runners.  I'm drooling with anticipation at the thought of Peyton Manning trying to throw on Jacksonville with Mathis, Nelson, and Williams in the secondary while Darius creeps into the box.

Safety is about the only weakness on the defensive side of the ball.  Defensive End could be addressed here, however if DE Bobby McCray is extended this year it shouldn't be a problem.
