WCG Mock Draft- Philadelphia (#26)

#26 - Philadelphia Eagles - Aaron Ross, CB, University of Texas.

Bear with me for a moment.  I don't actually believe that the Eagles will end up with Aaron Ross, I believe that they will pick a Safety and I think that either Griffin or Meriweather will be on the board when they select at 26.  While the Eagles' most pressing need may be at WR, they have a short-term memory when it comes to draft busts and the last time the Birds took a WR in the draft (the same draft where the Bears were blessed with David Terrell), they ended up with Freddie Mitchell, who was substitute teaching last I heard (I'm not making this up).

With the departure of Michael Lewis, the Eagles are in need of a Strong Safety to be the last line of defense with all-world FS, Brian Dawkins.  However, considering that there seems to be a major dropoff in Safeties after Michael Griffin (Eric Weddle of Utah is the next highest-rated), the Eagles could look to secure their pass coverage by picking Aaron Ross.  Although the Birds have starting CBs Lito Sheppard and Sheldon Brown locked in until 2011, Sheppard has had a number of injuries and their nickel corner right now is Will "Don't call me Will Peterson" James.  Thus, they could be tempted by a solid, playmaking CB like Ross.

It should be stated that the Eagles are every bit as cheap as the Bears, and probably would have reservations about throwing that much $$$ in the CB position (I don't have them selecting an OLB, more of a need than CB, for the reason that they are already paying Jeremiah Trotter and Takeo Spikes handsomely).  But it's a mock draft, so what the hell?
