ANALYSIS: The Cardinals could use the #16 pick and find an upgrade at just about every position except Wide Receiver. The offense ranked 7th in points, 5th in passing, but only 29th in rushing last year. They have a great 1-2 punch at WR, are set at QB with Warner and Leinert, and have a mix of veterans and former high draftpicks at OL and TE. Edgerrin James is now past 30 yrs old, and had another decent year. The Cardinals will consider drafting his replacement/backup with Jonathan Stewart available, but will most likely address the defense with the first round pick.
The Arizona defense ranked 27th in points allowed, 9th against the rush, and 28th against the pass last season. They lack any real impact players on defense, with the possible exception of Antrel Rolle, who played mostly CB but is expected to start at FS this year. Finding depth and a possible starter at CB will be a top priority in this draft. Many mockdrafts have them selecting a CB like Jenkins, or Cromartie, and had they been available I would have picked them at #16. The CB most often mocked for this pick was Aqib Talib, who just seemed like a reach at this point.
By selecting 6'5" 270lb DE Derrick Harvey, the Arizona Cardinals will get a value pick, and bolster their aging Defensive Line with a pass rushing phenom, who also plays well against the run. He will help offset the loss of their 2nd leading sacker to Free Agency, on an already terrible pass rushing team. Harvey was captain of the Florida defense as a Junior last season and will have an opportunity to start right away.
