With the 10th pick in the 2011 Windy City Gridiron Mock Draft the Washington Redskins select:
Julio Jones, WR, Alabama - and here's what Timothy had to say about the pick:
The Redskins are in pretty dire need for a QB, but with Gabbert and Newton off the board already and Jake Locker and Chris Ponder looking like a reach at number 10, I think the Redskins look at another major need. With Santana Moss looking to exit and the rest of the Redskin receiving corps looking pretty average at best, the skins will grab the best player available at that position, and maybe the best player left on the board: Julio Jones. It doesn't hurt that Jones had maybe the best combine of the draft field. The Redskins like their bobbles shiny, and Jones ran a 4.39 40, put up an 11'3" broad jump, a 38.5" vertical and pushed 17 times on the bench. Lucky for them, this bobble's shine isn't likely to wear off. While AJ Green is considered the best WR in the draft, Jones might end up being the better of the two once they reach the field. He's a big (6'2 3/4") physical WR with good hands. He runs good routes, has great agility for a big receiver, creates separation and even run blocks well. And he's a good character and attitude kid. He plays whistle to whistle, even on running downs. In fact, he's a fantastic blocker, which came in handy as the Tide are a run heavy team. He has no off-field issues to deal with and is considered a smart and coachable kid. With the fantastic combine, the great scouting reports and his standing out as a receiver on a very run heavy college offense, Jones fills the Redskins need to a tee. Did I mention that the Redskins love Combine beasts?
I like my bobbles shiny as well...
