Rex Grossman is a starting NFL QB... or is he?

You gotta hand it to the Sex Cannon in the confidence department.  Even during his Good Rex Bad Rex days here in Chicago his confidence never wavered.  He could throw 3 or 4 picks in a game with a QB rating in the single digits and still meet the media with his head held high.  I guess that's exactly the kind of bravado you'd want from your quarterback.  Now he's come out and declared himself the starter for the Washington Redskins.

Technically Rex is a free agent, so there's that whole contract thing to get worked out, but I guess you can call him a Shanahan guy after being in that system for two years between two different teams.  A return to the Redskins is likely, and maybe he has a 'wink wink' deal in place already.  Donovan McNabb looks to be on the outs after the way his 2010 season ended in Washington, so that's one hurdle out of the way for Grossman.

They didn't draft a QB, which was surprising, unless they have a deal or two they are contemplating.  Which leaves the only other guy on the roster for Rexy to out shine is John Beck, and Beck has already staked his claim to be their starting QB.  Rex was their #2 last year, and had a few starts, so does that give him the inside track?  His 81.2 rating in 4 games is actually his highest rated season ever.  Maybe he has figured something out?  From Brad Biggs article on the National Football Post from the Washington Post via ESPN 980:

"I feel like I'm coming into the prime of my experience and I know exactly what I can do well, what my weaknesses are and what my strengths are and how it relates to this offense.

"I've been in a lot of situations, crucial games. I've played in a Super Bowl. I feel like I'm so much better than I was then that I'd love the opportunity to have a full season with this offense and have a whole season to really feel like this is my team. That's my goal and that's what I want to happen. I'm assuming a lot of things here, that I'm signed and they're going to do all those things. At the same time, I don't see why it doesn't make great sense."

What do you guys think, will Rex Grossman ever be given the chance to lead a team again?
