It didn't take long for the Bears to fill the roster spot that was freed by cutting running back Kahlil Bell - Brad Biggs is reporting that the team has signed tight end Brody Eldridge.
"#Bears signed TE Brody Eldridge to take Kahlil Bell's roster spot. Team put Eldridge through a tryout last Tuesday."
Eldridge was a 5th round pick in 2010's draft for the Indianapolis Colts, but was cut earlier this past summer. He was immediately picked up by the St. Louis Rams, but then it was announced that he got busted for PED's (performance enhancing drugs) and would have to serve a 4-game suspension to start the 2012 season.
We aren't sure exactly what he was caught taking, and aren't in the business of speculating, but Brad Wells over st Stampede Blue sort of threw it out there: "Basically, to use a crude term that might not be 100% accurate (in terms of the actual substance Eldridge was busted using), Eldridge was 'roiding."
I don't know too much about the guy, other than the fact that he was very versatile in college, having played tight end, fullback, guard, and center for Oklahoma. He's a big guy, standing 6'5 and weighing in at 260 pounds. Now that he can get back to playing football, maybe the Bears see some potential to replace the red zone threat that was Alshon Jeffery.
Oh, and one more note: Brad Biggs also said that the team appeared to be working out a defensive back at Halas Hall today. Stay tuned...
