After the earlier news that the Chicago Bears signed safety Troy Nolan, we had to assume the treatment on starting free safety Chris Conte's hamstring wasn't going swimmingly. While not declaring Conte out for this Sunday's game against the Detroit Lions, Lovie Smith did say Chris Conte will be out for "a while" with a hamstring injury.
Conte wasn't the only player that missed practice today. Running backs Armando Allen (knee) and Matt Forte (ankle), linebacker and core special teamer Blake Costanzo (calf), cornerback Charles Tillman (ribs), and middle linebacker Brian Urlacher (hamstring) all missed Wednesday's practice.
If Conte does miss the Lions game, expect Anthony Walters to receive the first start of his NFL career. The Bears would need to get the newly signed Nolan quickly up to speed, because as the roster stands now, he's the only healthy back up.
Urlacher was working out before the Arizona game, so he's getting close.
Jay Cutler said about Matt Forte, "He seems to be walking around OK. I think he’s optimistic that he’ll play, but I don’t know."
If Forte misses the game and Allen hobbled, would the Bears be forced to start the returning Kahlil Bell?
Limited in practice were defensive tackle Henry Melton and offensive tackle Jonathan Scott.
