Chicago Bears Have Asked Permission to Interview Denver Broncos' OC Mike McCoy for Head Coach

Phil Emery appears to be wasting no time, with his quick dismissal of Smith and his outreach to bring people in.

Future head coach of the Chicago Bears?

Reported by Jay Glazer, and a lot of other people:

The Bears have already asked for permission to interview Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy. He's a very, very hot name right now

Hansel. He's so hot right now. Hansel.

Anyways, Mike McCoy is currently the offensive coordinator of the Broncos. You may remember him as the guy who actually made Orton look pretty decent in 2009. Or you may remember him from switching from Kyle Orton to Tim Tebow in the middle of last season, and somehow making that offense work to get to the playoffs.

Then, this year, he got offensive coordinator Christmas in March when Peyton Manning came to town, meaning he had to retool the offense yet again to be able to work with the future hall-of-famer.

Our friends over at Bleeding Green Nation did a nice little write-up on McCoy recently. (You may or may not know, they also need a new head coach with the exit of Andy Reid.) Go check it out.

Some highlights of McCoy's career:

-Time with Panthers as WR coach, offensive assistant, qb coach, passing game coordinator
-Broncos OC/Qb coach for a year
-Made Delhomme look good
-Made Orton look good
-Made TIM TEBOW look servicable

He interviewed with Miami last year, but ultimately turned them down. The Bears have a lot of pieces Miami doesn't, though, and that could be interesting.

The only problem is...the Broncos are poised for a very deep playoff run. Can the Bears afford to wait for a head coach for a month?
