Official WCG Mock Draft - Pick #19: Chicago Bears

The time has come. The Windy City Gridiron Mock Draft has finally come around to pick #19 and the Chicago Bears. Tasked with making the choice was beefcurtains, and I'm sure this pick will have some healthy debate surrounding it. All of us at WCG hope you've picked wisely.

And with the 19th pick in the WCG Mock Draft, the Chicago Bears select...

LB, Luke Kuechly, Boston College

beefcurtains: With the history of all the great Bears linebackers, someone is going to need to carry on the torch after Urlacher. As well as giving the Bears more options from here on out. At first I was automatically going to select him if he got to the Bears. But then I started wondering about Perry, Brockers, and even Mercilus (to shore up the d-line), even though I don't have much regard for Whitney. That is until I looked up his stats, it made it a tougher call. .But I feel that Luke was a top 15 if not top 10 pick. So I went with the best player available. Looking at Luke's stats and combine performance. It is really remarkable.

2009 ACC Defensive Rookie of the Year
2009 Emerald Bowl Defensive MVP
2010 All-American (unanimous)
2011 Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl Defensive MVP
2011 All-American (consensus)
2011 ACC Defensive Player of the Year
2011 Butkus Award
2011 Lombardi Award
2011 Lott IMPACT Trophy
2011 Bronko Nagurski Trophy

All the voters for the awards can’t be wrong, can they?!?! Boston College Career, 532 tackles, which is almost unreal. Speed, 4.58 40 yd dash. Vertical, 38 inches, which is more than WR’s Blackmon and Floyd, and the same as Wright. Bench press, 27 times, which is more than Mercilus, Brockers, and Irvin!

The guy is just an absolute stud. And with time to develop behind one of the greats, there is no question Luke will be solid for years to come. Plus it takes enormous strain off Urlacher and Briggs, who played almost every down last year, as well as a great backup if one ever gets injured. It also gives the Bears leverage in the current contract situation with Briggs. Oh yeah, as you can tell I’m not an English major.
