Lions' DB Aaron Berry Arrested for Simple Assault

Lions' cornerback Aaron Berry was arrested this weekend on three counts of simple assault - according to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press and citing a ProFootballTalk tip report, Berry allegedly brandished a firearm.

PFT claims a tipster told them Berry was arrested after a group of people claimed Berry pointed a gun at them from inside a car.

With the Lions' seventh arrest in seven months, the team has gotten a lot of practice in statement writing, saying...

"We are extremely disappointed by the reports involving Aaron Berry," the Lions said in a statement. "We are currently gathering more information and will have further comment when appropriate."

For Berry, it's his second arrest this offseason, after he was also picked up for a DUI and accidental damage to unattended vehicles after he hit two parked cars, got out and walked away on foot. The Lions' statement then read just about the same as their cited statement above. Berry was to enter a diversionary program which would have expunged the charges, but after this, that prior deal could be in jeopardy.

Berry is looking to be in the mix for a starting cornerback spot - for a secondary that, well, really isn't that good, losing a potential starter for any length of time won't exactly do much to make the secondary better, and with two arrests in a month's time, there certainly could be either some missed time or a sitdown with the Commish coming. Berry was an undrafted free agent from Pittsburgh in 2010.
