When Chicago Bears general manager Phil Emery was hired, many Bears fans were overjoyed with the move for the simple fact that he wasn't Jerry Angelo. The "Fire Jerry" movement was gaining steam through his tenure in Chicago and anyone would have been better than JA. It was definitely time for a change.
After Emery took control and we had a chance to hear from the man and research his credentials many of us were optimistic that this was the right man to lead the Bears to the promised land. Although there were some that didn't like the fact that head coach Lovie Smith was involved with the interview process, and he essentially aided in the hiring of his new boss. But since Emery's been running the show he's put his stamp on the team.
He added quality to the back up quarterback position. He traded for a bona fide Number One wide receiver. He was very active in free agency adding depth at numerous positions. He took care of the franchise tagged tailback and extended the pro bowl outside linebacker. He promoted a couple scouts from within. His first draft brought in the edge rusher the team has sorely lacked and a receiver that has number one potential. Some have even lauded his undrafted free agent moves, one of which was the top o-lineman that wasn't drafted.
I think it's a foregone conclusion that he'll walk away with Executive Of The Year.
Then again, he passed on adding to the offensive line via the draft, even passing up on a few highly rated players in the first round. The 1st rounder that he did pick does come with a fair number of questions about his game. He missed out on a free agent defensive end, when many were rumored to have interest in Chicago. And that bona fide #1 WR is bringing some baggage with him.
But we'll leave it up to you guys, take the poll and let your voice be heard.
